I wonder if Mike would let me design a stage one day? I would need 4 swingers a clam shell and some different colored spray paint :)

You'd have the range lawyers screaming about GAMERS!!!!

The Texas star is Illegal in IDPA. Daniel draw out your stage and submit it to Mike ( only 25% can be on steel on a stage and 10% in the match)If its legal and safe there's no reason not to.

I read where one guy tried to tell Free Idaho on the IDPA forum that it represented 5 pasty guys on bath salts..........he didn't buy that either!

You can forget trying to convince free Idaho (Ken) of anything if it isn't by the rule book he's got a dry sense of humor other than that he's a pretty Interesting guy, just set in his ways and a matter of fact I enjoyed talking with him at the Nationals last Sept. Now then If I remember correctly only a percentage of an affiliated clubs matches has to be IDPA and as long as its not listed as or called a IDPA match (some call them different names They can even be scored the same as IDPA ) anything goes just what ever the Match Director wants to do. There's a couple guys on here that's a lot more knowledgeable than I am about this and they could give better advice on Outlaw IDPA type matches. I personally think when your providing a service you got to make your customers happy.

You can use a TX star in a match or even a plate rack, just use it as hard cover with cardboard behind it.

Absolutely ZERO input in the current rule book or addedum that states that the TX star is illegal.  It is based on how you use these materials in the stage like a prop.

For instance:  Stage COF

Stage Description:  You are at a local USPSA match when bank robbers trying to escape the police run in your direction.  Defend yourself.  You go from USPSA mindset(including all the props that a typical USPSA stage design has) to a defensive scenario.

Note:  Now we all know bank robbers would not run in the direction of gun fire so the stage really is not realistic or plausible.  I have seen sanctioned events have this.  Not realistic(could it happen yes, likely nope) but fun to shoot and within the all legal IDPA rules.

I may be wrong and correct me if I am but if the TX Star has 5 steel plates and the rule book says you can only have steel on 25% of a stage with the max of 10% in a match and also with the max of a stage being 18 rds that means you can't use over 4 steel plates/targets per stage if it has 18 rds unless you left off one of the plates or as you said use it as hardcover wouldn't that make the TX star Illegal?

the percentages come into play when you are actually using the TX star as shooting targets.  You can use steel hard cover and there is no percentage taken into account.

Remember stage 3 at the Music City Cup II and a few years back at Tri-States, there was plate racks used as hard cover on a limited stage with cardboard targets behind the plates?  It could have been TX stars doesn't matter(plate racks are longer and cover more area).

Last year, Tri-States had the smoke and hope steel challenge props in a stage.  5 steel and behind each steel a partially exposed cardboard target.
