Generosity of TGO'ers

I recently posted a thread in the TGO Trading Post requesting to purchase a single brick of .22lr since, apparently, it has disappeared.  I was looking for a single brick so I could take my son shooting to break in his new Ruger SR22 and perhaps put some rounds down-range with his 10/22. What happened, you ask? I received not ONE, but TWO offers from fellow members to loan me a brick of 22 as long as I replaced it when supplies became available again.

Now, I've never met either of these members in person...only here on the forum.  What other group of people does stuff like that? I've been on the Internet for quite a while and participated in a number of forums.  This is the only group I know of where outright generosity and kindness are so apparent. I see it in other circumstances as well.  How about the threads where someone expresses a financial need for a worthy cause? TGO members step up and donate in large numbers just for the sake of helping others.  This has happened over and over again since I've been a member here.

In a time of great uncertainty in this country, it is great to know that there are people out there who are willing to step in and lend a hand when there's a need.

Thanks TGO!  :usa:

I have two similar stories to share about the fine folks here on TGO. A few months ago I got the chance to shoot an M&P VTAC and fell head over heals for them. I made a post asking for opinions and expressed my inability to find any in stock. A few weeks later a member got ahold of me through PM to let me know he had one he was considering selling as he was scheduled for deployment and would not be able to use it. He gave me a HECK of a deal considering his was complete with several desirable upgrades. Most recently I mentioned in a post my displeasure at not having procured enough AR magazines before the pricing madness began. Within 48 hours I had not one, but two offers from different members to sell me enough to be comfortable at and below retail pricing from before the madness. I jumped on the first offer and when talking over the phone to arrange a meeting (and just shooting the breeze in general) this GENTLEMAN asked how I was set for ammo. Well having none on hand I just kind of chuckles and said not good. Long story short he agrees to sell me some out of his stash, once again for much less than retail pricing from before the madness. After talking a bit more he also offers up a 22 conversion so now I can actually shoot my AR without burning through precious center fire, once again at a great price. I'm not going to name names to protect the users privacy, but you guys know who you are and all I can say is that the kindness displayed to myself, a complete stranger, truly does touch my often times too jaded heart. Thank you all so, so much! TGO is by far, and I mean far the best forum out there to my knowledge and that all comes down to a to the notch staff, AND the incredible members here.

I try my darnedest to be one of those guys. God knows those guys have done it for me. A fine TGO'er gifted me a like new stok set this weekend for my rifle. Wouldn't take a dime. I noticed our pay it forward thread kind of died. But did it? I know of a LOT of paying it forward that goes on around here unnoticed. I've traveled around the Internet forum scene. There ARE NO FINER PEOPLE to be found than right here. Period. Even the jerks are good people that you can trust in a pinch. Usually on any other forum you have Aholes that can't be reasoned with. I have found even those here who argue like little children and have to have daddy David step in to mediate, are very great people. This does not include the occasional troll, although no other site I ever been on has done so well with them. Our moderators all carry a +5 two handed vorpal bastard sword of troll slaying. (AD&D term).

And this is what our community, dare I say family, is about. Helping each other every chance we get. No matter how we feel about each other on the board we should help if they ask. I have people help me all the time and I try to pass it on every chance I get.

As far as the pay if forward box I have been threatening one for a while. I guess now it the time so watch out for it.

There are a lot of things in life that can seem important.  There are only a few things that really are.  Community is one of them.

We are blessed with a great community here, and frankly, most of the moderating decisions we are forced to take come from people who are disruptive to the commuity at large.

The interesting thing about community is that every individual member has an impact on the rest, whether they are actively involved or only seldomly so.  All it takes is one member taking advantage of someone else to sour it for everyone else.

We've got a good thing here.  Don't screw it up.
