Can I purchase a handgun in N.C.?

I have a Tn. HCP. If I purchase a handgun in North Carolina(listed on gunbrokers) and go there to see it first, then pay for it, will the sale need to go through a dealer? I'm not clear on this.

if you buy a gun from a dealer that is out of state, that gun must be shipped to a dealer in Tennessee before you can take it.  ffl/fed government rules.  private sales is private when it is face to face no matter where.  unless something has changed.

Face to face is only legal if both parties are residents of the same state (and the transfer must happen in the state of residence).

Gun Broker has a FFL finder link with a list of people that can do the transfer . My last one was 30.00 and they must ship it to the FFL holder and then you just  go and fill out the normal paperwork . For me it was cheaper to pay the 30.00 than the sales taxes here .

Not sure if this person is a dealer or not but believe he may be. It is a drive to go see the gun but if I could not get it when I see it, then I may just put it off. Thanks.

Just for additional information, NC requires a handgun purchase permit for all handgun sales, whether from FFL or private sales between NC residents.

As far as federal law:

- Handguns must be received only in the state of one's residence.

- Private sales must be between same state residents only (where allowed by state law).

- FFL sales of handguns must be transferred through FFL in the buyer's state only

So the answer to the topic question "Can I (a TN resident) purchase a handgun in N.C.? (legally)" is NO ....

(with the possible exception of military personnel with address of record in TN but stationed in NC, allowed by federal law but don't know about any possible various state ones regarding such)
