Owl Hollow Review

This is my personal review and is in no way the words of any TGO Member or Official . I wright this review to provide information on the Gun Club.

When I looked at the online pictures of the club i thought to myself that it looked run down and not well maintained, Nothing could be further from the truth.

When i pulled up to the club i noticed that it had the Handgun pit right up front with the Rifle range about 20 feet to the left of it, I like this because you don't have to walk a mile away to switch from one weapon to another.

The Firing lanes on the Rifle section were spaced well enough apart to where only a few times did i have spent casings coming over in my lane, There were to platforms to use , 1 was for your gear and the other for the weapon you were firing, at no time did i feel crowded or over run by other peoples gear or other people.

Another thing i liked about the firing line was the fact that it had a walkway behind it so you could walk down and watch other people fire there weapons without gettin in there way, This is a plus in my book, i have not seen this at other ranges. Also it was covered to keep the sun off of your head and in my case thats a good thing.

I met some people that were members of the Club and not there with TGO members and i must say that everyone was real nice and had no problems answering questions about the club, I have been to some ranges where if you ask someone about there weapon they look at you like you fell down the stupid tree and never answer.

I fired from the Rifle range using my Bersa .380 and did not feel as though the targets were too far away. Around every 30 minutes a cold range was called so people could change there targets , i like this seeing as the other outdoor range in town stops every 10 minutes to let people change targets which in my opinion is just stupid and just waists time that you have paid for.

Dont let the pictures fool you , this is a real nice club with great members and i for one will be considering becoming a member.

In closing let me say that the Owl Hollow Gun Club is a great place to shoot and an even better place to be a member.

Thank You

I agree with Fullmetal reviews. It was a great range and everyone I talked to was very courteous.

There was plenty of room to put up our range bags, and you weren't far away from your car encase you forgot something.

I enjoyed talking to Fullmetal about weapons. :D

Thank you Sling for letting me try out your HK handguns. :D

I am hooked.

All in all I had a great experience and hope to return soon to shoot more rifles.

btw you review was really good. I wish there was a place here similar to Owl Hollow.

I can shoot out front in the woods all I want but a club type place would be fun sometimes too.

I thought maybe you were follically challenged like Canyn is. LOL

As was explained to me yesterday...

The land owner has the option of not renewing the lease to the OHGC at the end of this calendar year (Dec 31st). Reportedly he has threatened that he would not renew several times in the past but always has. Perhaps as a means to increase the land lease rate, but that is speculation on my part and was not something I was told.

Land in Williamson County is going for quite a premium right now. In the neighborhood of $50,000 per acre. While it would be extremely costly to reclaim the land from the gun club and properly retrieve and dispose of the lead contaminants from over 40 years of shooting, the expense of doing so could still easily be offset by the profit of selling the property for residential development.

Simply put... what would you do if you owned it?

I am told that the owner is talking about leaving it a shooting range but operating it privately rather than leasing it to the club. It's said he receives about 50% of the proceeds now so he would be receiving 100% of them were he to do that. Of course he would also incur 100% of the operating expenses, maintenance costs, etc. and would not have the OHGC working on his behalf to generate traffic to the range. So hopefully he is considering that as well.

Anyway, the bottom line is that right now no one really knows what's going to happen. My wife and I are going to hold on joining OHGC until we learn more. But TGO will continue meeting there for our Middle TN shoots as long as the club is willing to have us. It's a little more profitable for them if we don't join, anyway. :death:

Did something like this also happen in the Sumner County area? I was told a similar story about a a range/club in that area.

Owl Hollow is a great range and it works out perfect for our monthly shoot.

I have a good drive to get there but it's worth it because of the range setup and everyone I've met there has been great.

I look forward to becoming a member I hope this range stays around the way it is for a few more years to come..

Note to self... Wasp are on site..only 1 of the 4 on me got me..lol :(
