.22wmr rifle

I've developed an interest in ..22 WMR rifles since I got my Keltec PMR-30 last year. I like the idea and looks of the Keltec RMR--30 carbine, and their magazine compatibility with the PMR-30, but like many things Keltec, they just aren't available. Also a fan of Ruger 10/22s, and wish they still made the ..22 WMR version of those!

What ..22 WMR rifles or carbines do you recommend? I prefer semi auto magazine fed, but other than that, I dunno. I'm not ready to buy yet but I want to start my research now so I can start looking once I decide what I want. Thanks for you input, TGO!

I’ve never messed with 22wmr isn’t ammo hard to find and expensive when you do?

I find it pretty much everywhere I find 22lr. It runs about .20 per round.

I have not bought .22 mags in a while but they were near what 9mm costs.

I have no recommendation for the OP.   My experience with 22WMR is with a Ruger SAS.  I have shot someone else's rifle a few times, fun to shoot but....

I don't think it is a worthwhile round.  Just for target shooting or plinking a .22 LR scratches the same itch at a lot less cost.

Seems it may serve only a very specific purpose.

Build it yourself without the issues found in the Ruger. I have no experience but have read good reviews. Edited by gau8a

Congrats on the PMR-30, barewoolf. I've had one for about a year and love it. Breakin on it was a little disturbing, but has settled down after about 300 rounds or so. Biggest problem I had was ftf when trying to laod mags pst 25/26 rounds. And that last few rounds were difficult at best. I've shot every brand of .22WMF I can get hold of thru mine, even the Keltec disavowed Fiocchi, and it eats them all.

Yes, these days .22mag is getting closer to the same cost as some other calibers, and it is a conscious decision to buy and shoot them. But for me, it's just plain fun.

I have a S&W K-frame in .22WMR and I absollutely love it! Some the most accurate shooting I've ever done has been with this little wheelgun. Of course it has a little sentimental value as well as I got it from my Dad.

All in all, I like the cartridge, granted it may or may not float your boat, but like everything else in this firearms world; I'ts what you like that counts most.

As to the .22WMR in a semiauto rifle, I really don't have any experience. I'd like to get a Henry chambered for it, but just a few ahead of it at this time.

And as for Mike.357 and his comment, though we usually agree....PPHHFFFTT. But will concede .22 is a little cheaper. At least it was until recently. Hve you looked at the case prices on 22? Whoa!! Edited by hipower

Just knowing myself, I'd be in the poor house pretty quick with a semi-auto 22 mag rifle.  Marlin makes a fine bolt action you might consider.

outside the current confusion its less than 9mm but a lot more than 22 LR.    Not hard to find --- still on the shelves, we got 5 boxes over the past week (my wife shoots a lot of it in a revolver).

I don't think there are a lot of semi-auto choices for it.  A few, but mostly bolts & levers --- I can't think of a one to add over what was already said.

There were a couple of companies working on an AR in 22 mag. Kind of a waste of time IMO, but if you make it, people will buy it.

There's a Grendel R-31 on gunbroker right now that would probably suit you.

I think it would too, but sadly, Im not ready to buy yet...though I will keep those in mind for when I am ready...thanks!

The remington 597 comes in 22wmr. I think there was one in the classifieds awhile back. I have one in 22lr and love it, if its big brother performs as well you should enjoy it. Very accurate and have had no issues. In fact, thought I feel slightly blasphemous even saying it, I think I actually prefer it over the 10/22.
