Neck Expander Die

Recommended Posts

Posted

In my quest to reload 7.62x39 I have realized I need a neck expander die. My barrels are .312-.314 so I will need to use .314-.316 lead bullets. My resizer die sizes the necks to .310 inside diameter. Neck expanders I see available are a RCBS .311, Lyman has a 31 caliber expander for .303 British and then there is the Lee universal expander.  Will any these work for me? Or will I have to have something made? May just have to buy one and see how it works.

They are lee dies. They have a 308 decapper and a 310 decapper. I dont have a mold yet but just going by my experience so far with loading cast 9mm. If I dont have the case mouth belled enough it will shave lead of the bullet.

No I dont have your number.

Thank-you

lee makes dies for it.  Buy the expander for the 1909 argentine.  :)

Its 7.65, or .313 I think.

I will see what I can do. What is the final size of the neck you want? I have to add .002" for spring back. It will also add a step to the process as the neck expander will be a separate die to be used by itself.

Lyman M die. I say it all the time.

Thats one I was looking at, 31 caliber M die. Having never used a neck expander die, I didnt know if it would work with .316 bullets. I think the 32 caliber would be to big.
