Reloading help

I'm reloading 9mm with lee dies. Why does the bullet keep buldging the brass out? I've even tried flaring the mouth almost as much as possible and it's buldging just as much as if I don't flare it as much. What type and diameter are your bullets ?

 

for 9mm, jacketed are typically 0.355", and cast 0.356".

 

If you are using bullets for .38/.357, there is a .002" difference, and will be very noticable ( and over sized)

measure the diameter, and confirm.

The cases budging are normal. It is just from the cases being sized down and a bullet being forced into it. If they will chamber you will be fine. As a matter of fact you are assured there will be no setback.

Also, you only want enough flare to keep from shaving the bullets. Normally I can't see or feel the flare. This helps your cases last longer.

I purchased a Lyman check gauge for about $12 it is well worth it. Also with the tapatalk issue copy the link it puts then do webview and paste, it will work then. I know it kind of defeats the purpose of tapatalk.

Factory crimp die should iron most of that out.

Tapered case is resized smaller than bullet diameter so you get what we referred to as the "coke bottle effect"

 

chamber check a few with the barrel out of the pistol if they drop in  you are G2G  no need to "iron it out" as you may undersize the bullet in the case which if carried to extremes will lead to bad accuracy and even keyholing..

 

my .38 supers look like that too, but all drop into my case gauge and chamber so they run

 

the .38 Special  .40 10mm and .45 will be less likely to show that effect as they are straight walled cases but might depending on how much the resizing die resizes them
