Guys Weekend

A few friends from college and myself are looking to rent a cabin sometime this spring and basically want to spend a couple days shooting and catching up. Can anyone suggest any places that might fulfill our needs in Tennessee, Georgia, or Alabama?

Regards,

Look around Blue Ridge. Great little spot with plenty to do. Raft the Ocoee, golf, and there is probably somewhere to shoot nearby, though I've never looked.

We've done this with friends from college for the past several years.  There's typically 4-6 couples, we rent a cabin somewhere near Gatlinburg/Sevierville/Pigeon Forge.  The guys go shooting at Sevier Indoor Range and the girls go shopping.  Gatlinburg Sportsmans Club is also an option if you're a skeet/trap person.  Hot tub + beer + chalet with killer home theater... good to go.  Our little reunion of sorts.

One thing we learned pretty quickly, eating out with a group of 10-12 is nigh impossible.  We've found it much more enjoyable to eat in.  Typically 2 couples fix dinner each night.  There's usually enough snacks laying around that lunch isn't really necessary.  The only meal we eat out is brunch at the the Pancake Pantry.

I think this is pretty much what we are looking for... I want to shoot skeet/trap, but also pistols. So it may be difficult to do both, but the rest sounds great... If you have any other details PM me please.

I've never really been involved in organizing it... the wives do that.  ;)    Generally they just get online and search for a chalet of appropriate size.  There's at least a dozen different rental agencies and literally thousands of chalets in the area.  We've had some nice ones and some pretty crappy ones.  We've taken to making it a 3-day weekend, the extra day is worthwhile.  My biggest gripe is that lots of the agencies won't tell you exactly where the house is until you check in.  That's annoying when you've got people coming from several directions.  We used to stay up on Ski Mtn, but I've successfully lobbied against that.  We spend very little time in Gatlinburg, so why fight the traffic?  And I put my car in a ditch one year when it snowed....  :-\

The folks at Sever Indoor Range have always been very accomodating...  nicest indoor range around, IMO.  Check their website for their class schedule.  You may have to wait a bit if they've got an HCP class that day.  Keep in mind that while it's an indoor range, it's not conditioned.  If it's cold outside, it'll be cold inside.  They have a few space heaters that keep it reasonable.
