Foster-carry!

Howdy folks. A long, long time ago, I posted a post asking to see if anybody knew anything about how the TN fostercare system views TN residents with TN carry permits and what restrictions were placed on those who have one.

After a year of getting our house ready and child-proofed, we took the classes, completed the homestudies and have been approved and want to share some interesting news in case there are others out there like me who are curious to see how the system deals with people like you and me.

And it's good news. While I would ALWAYS recommend checking with your workers, at the time of our filing, other than filling out a form saying that you'll be responsible and safe with your firearm, and providing them with a copy of your permit, and a copy at renewal time, you're free to carry your firearm. You've got to practice what you preach though. This doesn't mean leaving it unlocked on your nightstand at night, or leaving boxes of .45ACP all over the place. But you can carry it on your body in all legal, common-sense situations!

So now you know. That being said, any other foster-parents on here?

Happy and safe New Year!

Josh

Good info.

I grew up with countless fosters in and out of my home. My family adopted 4 of them, and went through an agency for two other children. Fostering and adopting is a tough thing to do, but immensely rewarding.

I work at Children's Services, since I work with primarily Juvenile Justice kids, foster home placements are not the norm and I am not a foster parent. DCS policy for foster parents is that weapons are secured in a non-glass cabinet or safe. Key words are non-glass and secure. As far as I know, nothing about if foster parents can have a carry permit or not. There are other companies that deal with foster care, Youth Villages and Phoniex Homes. I think they have policies similiar to DCS.

Props to you my man. We have enough trouble wrangling our 8 yr old around....

+1 to that.  My 2yr old and 4 yr old keep me plenty busy.  While I'd love to have a big family, caring for a mess of little ones would be a lot of work.

It's definitely a lot of work. It's an emotional roller coaster. I hear guys complain about trivial things that there kids do and I have to laugh. Someone always has it worse than you. You just never expect it to be a two year old blind girl that has never had any human contact. I have a lot of people ask me why. They wouldn't have to ask if they saw that same little girl smile from ear to ear when I touch her face with my beard and whisper
" daddy's home"

we have 2 foster kids right now (2 & 4 yo) with a 3 yo bio.  we were approved and made active in early Nov and 5 days later we had 2 kids.  i will say when we were getting our home study done, the worker was very pro 2a.  we ending up talking guns and politics more than he interviewed me.  i think they usually take a common sense approach (impressive for a .gov agency).  the only thing that we had to do was keep the ammo separate from the guns.  except for my edc and shotgun i keep loaded and locked in my safe.

You know, just when things seem bleak and pointless and you feel like throwing the towel in and becoming a sheeple......someone pulls you back to reality and reminds you of what and why, we do and fight, for the things we do.

I needed this today, thank you.
