Failure to Feed X 2

So, I was shooting my wife's brand new XD SC40 on Monday and I was a little shocked. Has anyone ever heard of not one but TWO FTF in less than 100 rounds. This was the first time this gun has been shot. I seemed to have a deal of trouble loading the last rounds in the magazine. And no I did not lose count and shove more in. Should I be worried about this? It was a little upsetting. Is there any troubleshooting I should perform or maybe I should schedule an appointment for the gun doctor. What do you think?

My XDs have always performed well... I don't think I've ever had any problems except a rare FtFire from cheap ammo.

I would make sure that your not shooting with a 'limp wrist' as this will sometimes cause feed problems. If thats not the case, make sure the weapon is clean (they are not really clean straight from the factory). If all else fails, put in a call to Springfield customer service, but I really think its one of the two above.

As for the magazines, they are a pain to load. The quick load tool that comes in the kit is basically useless in my opinion...hehe. They will get a little easier to load the more you use them, but don't expect a night/day difference.

Break in period maybe?

Although XD's dont need a break in period, there perfect out of the box!

I have had one FTE out of an XD40 but I chalked it off as a limp wrist, and didn't have any more problems.

It would have to be one of those things IMO,so just put a few more through it,and keep a firm grip!

Shooting plain old WWB from WallyWorld. My .45 ran like a champ. Maybe from going from a .45 to a .40 and bcak I could have had a limp wrist. Never been accused of that before and the gun was cleaned after purchase. I had to show the wife how to do it. However, if she cleans her gun like she cleans the house, that gun may never FIRE much less feed.

ROFL... you better hope she doesn't lurk around on this forum and catch that comment, although I admit I got a good laugh out of it. :)

I'd honestly get ~500 rounds put through it to break it in and if its still having problems seek customer service advice from Springfield. It very well could be a recoil difference as I notice the .40 tend to snap where the .45 is more of a push. Keep feeding her and keep a tight wrist. Let us know the outcome....

I have an XD 40 SubCompact and Tactical and have never had a feed problem. A friend of mine accidently put a couple rounds of 9mm into the tactical and it shot that as well. The only time i have seen a problem like that with one is when someone put 10 rounds in the short clip which only holds 9.

Where were the rounds jamming? On the feed-ramp, nose-diving in the mag, or simply not returning fully to battery? Did the failures occur using the same magazine?

I've yet to have an XD not feed, in over 15Krd combined through the ones I've owned... dirty or not.

Make sure the magazines say .40s&w on the bottom (using 9mm magazines could cause an issue). I doubt the factory packaged the wrong mags, but it just takes a second to check.

Limp-wristing is a possibility, but without watching you shoot that's a stretch to consider.

I'd give it a longer break-in time. Wilson Combat says to not even think about contacting them until you have 500 rounds through their handguns. Normally this isn't a problem with XDs though.

If you were stove-piping I'd suspect limp-wristing. My guess is that you have a magazine problem or it just needs more rounds through it.

Check the chamber for “dimples” that are from the glue that seals the ammo boxes

I had this problem w/ Wal-Mart’s Winchester ammo – the glue gets on the ammo and then it is cooked to the side of the chamber that causes malfunctions of all types

My Glock had 3 ftf in the 1st 3 mags I ran through it. After that it has never failed once on anything I have put in it (Ok,ok mostly WWB but, other stuff too.) in about 1,500 rounds.

Like Brain said, about 500 rounds then you'll know if you can trust it.

I've tried to limp wrist my XD40 Service model and was unable. Being that it is new, a subcompact, stiff spring and maybe limp wristing, might have been your problem.

Also, make sure you are slamming those magazines in. I always give it a good whack after you put it in....:).

He just didn't have enough KoolAid before he shot the gun. Any Glock lover (like me) knows that!

Impossible! It must not be a real Glock... :(

:cool::D:D = joke

I bought some cheap S&b once, would not run in my 34 but ran fine in my 17. go figure

Maybe you just have a mag thats a bit fouled up. Mark them all, then run them to find which one. Or as everyone else has said---shoot the piss out of it...........:)

Ghostdog is correct. At the time I got the Glock I hadn't drank the Kool-aid yet. After the 1st range session I joined glocktalk and such, since then it has been perfect.

It wasn't my Glock that wasn't perfect. It was my belief in the Glock that wasn't yet perfect. Since my belief in the Glock has matched it's perfection not one problem at all, except the rising cost of ammo.

I think they all need a lot of breaking in, but I just like to shoot.

It sounds to me that you may be having a magazine problem. Can you isolate the ftf to any particular mag? It doesn't sound like the gun is the problem.
