help in murfreesboro area

i purchased a daniel defense m4 v4 alwhile back and just got around to shooting it. the price was kinda low but i thought i just happened to be in the right place at the right time. the previous owner had removed the front(fixed) site and put a buffer(not sure if that is what it is called) on to hold the gas block. the rifle will not cycle a second round. i was wondering if anyone in the murfreesboro area would be willing to help me/show me how to fix my rifle? i can pay a shop to fix it but i would rather take this as an opportunity to learn more about the gun. i have the front site but not the roll pin that holds it in.

I'm not in Murfreesboro but don't worry I'd say your problem is not difficult to diagnose. I'd say the gas block is misaligned or blocked. Hopefully someone in your area can help you sort it out. Post some pictures if you can. We can surely talk you through the troubleshooting.

i think it has to do with the gas block. i will try to get some pics up

My. Gas block came loose the bolts had backed out. Take the fore grips off. 're align in the original spot I think that may b your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

If it is a Yankee Hill gas block it can be put on backwards.

Yeah, something is pretty messed up but easily fixed. It looks almost like that block is canted front to rear and if that is the case it is not sealing well. Almost looks like someone put a .936 block on a 750" barrel. Are there any noticeable gaps between the barrel and the gas block? There should not be any gaps or at least not big enough to notice.

 

Is the block seated firmly against the handgueard retainer? Looks like it has a gap there and it should not have one at all.

 

And finally does it look like the gas block is centered to the upper receiver, not the handgaurds?

 

Worst case scenario you can buy another gas block for $20 or you can the front sight. Looks like you will need a few taper pins but that are CHEAP.

yes, there is a gap on the top side. you are probably right on the wrong size block. i am fine with putting the front site back on or getting another block, i just don't know what to order.

If you like the current look then just buy a low profile gas block in .750. If you want to have the front sight post then just reinstall that.

Thats the problem. Everybody is sold out of blocks and i dont have the pins to put the front site back on. Plus i am unsure about how to do it

New guy here, and my first post so be gentle, and I will be doing a proper intro after this.

 

The way you have the FSB pictured is backwards from proper insallation. If you put it on that way you won't be able to install your gas tube.

 

Pins and or gas blocks can be had at BCM right now: pins and barrel parts.

 

There are Brownell's, Midway and others have a lot of these components too, but the only place I found with pins in stock was BCM. Hope this helps you out. If you aren't certain on how to put it all back together, then get your parts and go to a good local smith and it shouldn't cost you very much to get it done. I'd also get a new crush washer for my muzzle device, whether bird cage or something fancier.

I hear you brother, better to be independent. There are plenty of video tutorials out there on how to do this stuff, but some barrel stuff is better left to the dude who makes his living at it. Although, since the bulk of the work has already been done then mounting a new gas block or repinning the old one actually is fairly simple. The only caveat is that you make absolutely sure that the gas port on the barrel lines up with the one in the block/FSB.
