Glock 17C and IDPA

While in a hurry to order my first Glock, I accidently purchased a G17c instead of a G17, now I am reading the I cannot have a compensated barrel to compete in IDPA, is that right?

If so, can I replace the compensated barrel with an OEM barrel (leaving the vented slide in place) and compete?

Please let me know.

Thanks.

yes, you can replace just the barrel.  Yes, IDPA bans porting or did last time I read their book.  Edit: replacing the barrel is sufficient but someone may still argue about it ....  people are like that.

While you are buying barrels, consider a twist rifled barrel (instead of poly rifled) so you can reload lead on the cheap for the sport?

Page 20 of the rule book says no externally visible modifications other than grips or sights. I'm not sure if this counts, however, I think most monthly club matches would let it slide.

Yea you always have to contend with the rulemongers....   It may be a thorn in your side forever to use that gun, depending on where you go and how serious they take it.

Crap, so I need to basically buy a new gun?  Crap, complete uppers with barrel are $300+ bucks.

Yea the prices suck unless you can randomly find them online in equipment exchanges/WTS areas.  You're already going to have to buy another barrel......it might work out cheaper to buy another and sell this one.  That or trade it for someone with a stock 17.

The ported barrel isn't allowed but don't worry about the rest of it if you're just trying out the sport. Come on out to MCTS and we will find a way to help you get started.

Thanks for that, it is my own damn fault, on Buds it had the Glock Listed as G17 Comp, I assumed Comp meant competition (I have never owned a Glock before).  I have put my 17c up for sale and I have a 17 Gen4 coming in,  The only reason I bought the weapon is for practical shooting, so I might as well have the true and correct one to start with.  On a side note, there is a nifty, NIB G17c for sale in the trading post now.  :)

Those guys at MCTS are quite helpful, as Rick says.  Make sure to visit them.  Also, I'll be running an indoor match at Nashville Armory every other Tuesday, starting January 8th.  You'll be good to go there as well after you replace the barrel.  Hope to see you there and in Dickson.

Awesome, the Armory is close to work, I will certainly attend some of those meets!
