Recommend a stripped AR lower receiver

I'm toying with the idea of buying a stripped AR lower receiver to send out and have engraved per "Form 4" to be used as the foundation of a short barrel rifle.

If you wanted a quality lower receiver that would present no fuss due to crappy tolerances when the time came to assemble your rifle, what brand would you choose?

Thanks.

I like Spikes. I've built two of them and I've had zero issues with either of them. One has a Doublestar upper on it, one has a Rock River upper.

I like the DPMS parts kit over the Doublestar ones...

just my opnion

I have become a fan of DPMS, but I know nothing about SBR's. I actually have an extra stripped lower that I bought from Rabbi and was going to build a 16", but the next time i was at his shop, ended up buying an entire rifle (DPMS).

+1 on Spike's

I dont have one but, c'mon they're sick looking! Not to mention they look great decked out with a Magpul CTR and Miad Grip!

You can't go wrong with a "quality" lower.

My favorites for builds are DPMS, Spike's, Mega and Sabre.

(what most people won't tell you is that there are only a half dozen, or less, companies that make all the lowers and then stamp them for the company that ordered them.)

We're actually about to order some stripped lowers from CMMG that are going to be manufactured as SBRs. These would transfer on a Form 4, with NO ADDITTIONAL ENGRAVING REQUIRED!

We're bringing these in for $249, but for TGO members $225 sounds alot better. No muss, no fuss, no finding an engraver and worrying about shipping it... only one set of manufacuring data, looks like any other AR lower. Just let us know.. these should start landing in about 2 weeks or so.

Order will probably go in on Monday... will probably take about 5-10 days for Form 3s to clear, then we'll be good to go. So everybody take this weekend to think about it and let Joe or myself know Sunday night.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but you can use this lower with a non-NFA upper and not have to file Form 4, correct? So I could buy the lower, build a non-NFA rifle at first and then later file Form 4 and use it to carry a 10.5" barrel upper.

Or is that wrong?

Yep, you are wrong. This receiver is an SBR, whether you put a 24" barrel on it, a 4" barrel on it, or just leave it as a paperweight. It's an NFA item that requires ATF approval from the minute it gets manufactured. CMMG files a Form 2 the day they build it, then a Form 3 to transfer it to me, and then we file a Form 4 to transfer it to you.

Now, as for the uppers, the LMT is super-cool, if you want to drop the coin. I've had great luck with CMMG's stuff. I run a CMMG 10.3" 1-in-7" twist barrel on my M4, and it's one of the most accurate AR's I've ever put together.

Ok... so I need to go ahead and get a Revocable Trust set up. *sigh*

Someone should put together a nice how-to on this. :)

I had planned on doing just that a while back... then my money dry'd

up all of a sudden. (Hate it when that happens.)

EDIT:

Going to remove myself from the list for the time being. Elite Firearms, is a Class III dealer about 15 mins from my house. I'll see if they could handle paperwork / transfer for me, before I speak for one of the lowers. Sorry for the confusion... sucks living up here and using you guys for toys. :)

Count me in. I'll buy one.

Copy and paste the list and add yourself Kris

Added:

Legal issues-

If you are now a resident of KY, you will need to initiate and submit your Form 4 from a NFA dealer in your state of residence, meaning you can source the receiver from us but it will need to transfer to a NFA dealer in KY.

1. David

2. Eddie

3.

4.

5.

Joe, where am I? Dude, I feel so left out... I want a USGI upper, remember? 14.5 inches and all that HK pict-o-gram and infidel stuff... Damn, and I thought you were my friend...

Good to know we can buy, sell or trade in this thread.:) J/K

You can build a SBR out of any stripped lower, just a matter of how you you go about it.

A lower is just the parts holder with the serial # on it (gun part)

What ever barrel length you put on it is another story.

I've never seen the use in them, just a toy.

If that's what you want, go for it.

I'm thinking about a pistol lower so it could be assembled either way, rifle or pistol. A Saber Defence lower would be neat since it is made here in TN.

it would be illegal to put a shoulder stock on the pistol lower.

I thought you could as long as you used a legal length upper (not make a SBR out of it). I'm still learning on this stuff, so I'm not real sure.
