Digital, most beams wont read more than 200 to 300 grains, hard to weight a case.

I pick up a cheap one, 20 dollars, works great, will weight 700 grains.

Well more info might be helpful
I planning on just loading 9 mm to start, on a square deal B
So just need to triple check the load.

beams will work if you're not shooting long range competition. use dry air to clean the beam not oil of any sort. if you're a plinker a good powder drop will do just as fine. Invest in a good quality powder drop though. If you decide to invest in a digital scale buy a good one something from Denver instruments. Get a lab grade scale, the ones out there most use for reloading such as rcbs Dillon etc..... aren't accurate and always needing to be calibrated. Even with using a digital scale you should run it thru a APC power backup with a filter built in to clean the current going to the scale.   Also regardless of what scale you use it needs to be setup in a draft free room.

Now in saying all that I have all of the above, I have Harrells powder drop, I have RCBS 10-10 scales and I have a Denver instruments digital scale running thru a APC. My digital scale will measure powder to the .001 of a grain. Most powder scales measure .1 grain a decent lab grade scale that runs around 275.00 will measure to .01 of a grain where as my scale costs 1500.00+ and as mentioned measures down to .001 grain.

Digital. The price is right and they work just fine.

Also they're a lot less trouble an quicker to use.

I got a Layman 1000 beam to go with my square B deal for Xmas, and trying to see if I should swap out for a digital one.

I tried beam scales, admittedly not an expensive set up. It wasn't for me. Digital is the way to go for me. They're quicker and plenty accurate enough.

I use a Frankford Arsenal digital scale that I caught on sale on MidwayUSA for $25. Hasn't failed me yet. I considered upgrading to a nice scale like the one Berry's sells, but I can't justify the cost.

I'm not reloading match grade long distance ammo. For what I'm doing being off by 0.05 gr or even 0.10 gr isn't gonna be the end of the world. Edited by BigK
