Help with Old S&W 38

I was out this morning and saw a old S&W 38 that I found interesting.  It reminded me of the 38 police issue I have, except much older.  It had markings on it that said it had been worked on or modified or something like that in London.  So, I assume it is from WW2?  Anyone ever seen one of these? Is it rare or valuable?  I don't know a lot about these and would appreciarte any feedback.

If it was made for the Brits is was probably for a .38-200 revolver MK I. with was a little fatter but shorter than the 38 special and was a .361" bore. When a lot of these were brought back into the states it was common to run a 38 special reamer into the chambers so you could shoot 38 specials but the problem with that is the rear of the case would bulge. If it is not modified to 38 spl it might actually be worth something.
