Brand new to reloading and need some help.

I*m about to start reloading 9mm using a lee dipper and lee dies. The bullets I have right now are 115 grain copper plated hollow points. For that bullet the chart shows me a couple powders to use with the dipper but are kinda pricey. A 115 grain xtp shows using power pistol powder with the .5 dipper.

Power pistol is alot cheaper then the powders Listed under the 115 copper plated, would it not be safe to use power pistol with this bullet?

Buy a scale. You can get a scale and powder pan/funnel for about $35. Then you can be safe and use any powder with a recipe for that bullet.

You really need a scale. Those dippers, or more specifically the charts, are wrong.

With that bullet 5.2 grains of Power Pistol works fine in my guns. But I have no way of converting the volume of Power Pistol to the weight you need.

I bought my first reloading stuff used and it came with a set of the lee dippers. I have never used them till just now, but with the .5 dipper I get 5.5-5.7 grains of power pistol with it. But I am with the others, I would get a scale

There you go. Your .5cc dipper is below the max so you should be fine.

What powders are you talking about being expensive?

Most powders run $25 and Power Pistol runs $22. Seems to me $3 wouldn't be worth the effort to find it. I have only found one place that has it in stock regularly. And that extra $3 might mean the differnce between a good powder and a great powder.

Starts with a v. It listed 3 different powders of that brand all $32 a pound. But I guess what I was wondering is why it doesn't list power pistol for jacketed 115 gr but lists it for 115 xtp? I would just assume that most bullets of the same grain would be safe with the same load.

Jacketed are a slide down the barrel diff than non-jacketed.

Pressures will be diff.

Look, find the powder you want to use, go to their site, look for data, if it not listed,

use what is listed.

There are SO many powders out there, I use Titegroup for all my pistols, I am not reloading for

matches or long shots, all my reloads are for plinking and fun.

Screw VihtaVouri powders in the Knoxville area. They are great powders and I have a lot of it but it is very hard to find locally.
for some reason it seems like they are the majority of powders that lee lists for some reason. I guess I just need to get online and do some looking. The lee chart doesn't list very many powders, didn't see any hogdon on there at all.

Use your .5cc dipper with the Power Pistol. You will be fine. It is on the low end of the load but still more than what I use.
ok thanks I thought it would be ok, but wasn't sure seeing how I've never reloaded before hopefully David has some small pistol primers and some power pistol so I can get started

Its a sr9c I just got these bullets cuz they were on midway and cheap but I'll probably start using just cast bullets eventually. I'm just interested in plinking ammo for the 9mm and I'll probably start 223 next year. I really appreciate the help guys. I will most likely be at the show Saturday morning.

You really need to get a reloading manual as well. Lee's Modern Reloading has the data for using the dippers as well as other important information. Edited by jb980
