I dropped "Starkvegas" in a conversation once. Got a blank stare and "Whar's that??" querstion back at me.

....and I thought I was being cool.

I always wondered the same thing Mike, so don't feel alone. To hear it called Nashvegas makes me laugh cause I automatically think of casinos galore and showgirls when I think of Vegas, and Nashville (or any of the other cities that get Vegas attached to the end) isn't even close to being a Vegas.

Nashvegas is OK, but I prefer "Hillbilly Hollywood."

It's an ironic comment on the excitement the city provides.

Thanks you, my point exactly.

Rabbi and Dixie summed it up best I think.

And for those of you with smart ass comments, I had no bad day at work, I do not care what you call the hell hole city you are from. I just asked a simple question.

Is it wrong to ask something now?

It's wrong to ask a question of the public at large and not want to listen to the responses. Unless you just like being a dick to people. :D

Honestly the only times I hear "vegas" added to anything, the town has a name ending in "ville". To me it seems pretty obvious that it is a tongue in cheek, sarcastic way of mocking the town in question.

Tomorrow I'm going to start a thread asking why some people add the suffix "-inator" to people's names. Like Mikenator. Rabbiinator. Marsinator.

Stay tuned!!!

It's custodies and what are you implying? I didn't call anyone a dick. I just presented a hypothesis.

You're right, it is custodies. My career in classics is a distant memory now. How embarassing.

And if I had posted that another forum member was a dick I would get a warning. Rightfully so.

And I didn't say that he was being a dick. I posed that you might ask a question and then complain about the answers if being a dick made you happy.

I hate Memphis being referred to as "Memfrica". It gives you the impression that Africa might be as crappy a place as Memphis is and I refuse to believe that.

It also happens up here in Cookeville. People do call it Cookevegas. I think in this case it is a direct mockery of just how much this place sucks.

I wonder if people in Las Vegas call it Las Ville to make fun of it????

You're joking.

Look at Zimbabwe. Inflation running 3m percent a year. Food rationed and given out as political favors. Police state. They would pay to go to Memphis.

Now compared to other places in the state Memfrica is a **** hole.

It always fascinates me when random things take random turns and get so needlessly ugly...

Good God, can't a person just ask a question? Why does anything have to be a big deal to be discussed?

I would say the simple answer is No, I've seen many threads where a simple question was asked and the poster blasted as to why he asked or that people don't agree with the need for what he asked about instead of a simple answer to a simple question.

I will simply say this entire thread turned otu to not be very High Road.

Opps wrong forum, yeah thats the ticket.

Tungsten I know full well what you mean by your reply.

It's no different than when Voldemort asked about HCP classes in Spanish and {cough} people {/cough} blasted him for asking it and turned it into a debate on illegal immigration. Knowhutamean?

this reply means nothing, not the first thing, nothing to be read into it.

no sinister subplot.

pretty much the same as all my previous replies.

when Voldemort

who?

Anyway throwing a Vegas on the end of a cities name is lame.

Now Las Corryton has a real ring to it.
