debating purchase of a ruger american rifle in 243win or 30-06. is anyone familiar with this rifle in 30-06. i was wondering how the recoil would be. also any opinions on which caliber would be more useful. will use mostly for target shooting on steel targets. already have rifles in 5.56 and a couple in 308 just wanting to expand capabilties. i thought the 243 would make a good intermediate caliber considering what i already have. rifle avaiable for around 386.00 us dollars so i can swing the cash. thanks in advance for your thoughts

Ruger American in .308 is essentially 7.62 X 51, a military caliber, and therefore more likely to have an ammunition supply available through thick and thin, especially with thick apparently on the horizon.

The wife bought me the American in .270. I am planning on heading to CHMR tomorrow to give it a try. I put a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 on top.

I got the American in 30-06 for Christmas. The recoil is stout for sure, but I didn't find it unbearable or painful. Then again, I don't find shooting a Mosin Nagant 91/30 all that bad. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
