Suggested Form Letter, Congressman, Sandy Hook

Recommended Posts

I searched for one on TGO, and did not find one, just any standard form letter to our elected officals, well anyway, this will be my letter to my representative and two senators.  If you have one, please post as well, no sense in re-inventing the wheel:

Dear Congresswoman / Congressman their name,

This letter is to encourage you to vote for any new legislation to add armed security at our state and federally funded schools including higher education, and to vote down any new gun legislation that may come up for vote as a direct result of the horrific tragedy that occurred at the Sandy Hook school.

Like others, I know we must do something, and like the President said, we can do better than this, but what we do must be real, measurable and effective, not just something that sounds good, or feeds a political agenda.

I know that any legislation will be monumental and evoke a lot of passion on both sides of the debate.  I am a father (grandfather, uncle, aunt, etc.) of beautiful and wonderful school age children, and I am very concerned a tragedy like Sandy Hook could happen locally at our schools.  I know academically by posted signs or physically banning any type or all guns could never work (not realistic), but adding armed security now at local schools is the only solution that is real, measurable and would be effective.  This security can be achieved by numerous ways, but taking a simple approach of having trained professionals like police officers, retired military, or to be cost effective, even have factuality and/or staff professionally trained in armed security would work now.  Why is it that Banks, Airports, Capital Buildings, Celebrities and Stadium events all have strong security and in many places armed security, but yet our most precious gifts are left vulnerable?  The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

I genuinely appreciate the role you play in shaping our country.  Thank you for your public service and promotion of peace and harmony in our lifetime.

Warm Regards,

Smart men will change their minds, fools never will.  I changed my form letter, already sent a emals and hard letters to my two senators and representative.  I may send to the state level as well:

Your Name

Address

December 26, 2012

Honorable John Duncan, Jr.

2207 Rayburn HOB

Washington, DC 20515

Dear Honorable John Duncan, Jr.

This letter is to encourage you to vote for new legislation to address mental illness in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy.  In my view, this is not a gun issue, but both a mental illness issue and lack of securing guns at home issue to prevent people with mental illness from having access to guns.

Like others, I know we must do something, and like the President said, we can do better than this, but what we must be real, meaningful, and honorable to the young people who lost their lives.  What the NRA proposed makes immediate sense in that it can be deployed almost immediately and would provide security now.  What we need are good people with guns fully trained to stop bad people with guns.   I encourage you to vote down any new gun restrictions, and focus on new mental issue legislation, not the tools that were used.

I genuinely appreciate the role you play in shaping our country.  Thank you for your public service and promotion of peace and harmony in our lifetime.

Warm Regards,
