Firefox 3 will be released this Tuesday. Firefox 3 Release Candidate 3 (apparently actually the final) is available now at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-rc.html. Please read the known issues at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0rc3/releasenotes/#issues.

See this video for a quick overview of some of the changes: http://people.mozilla.com/~beltzner/overview-of-firefox3.swf

It would probably be a good idea to backup your data. I suggest the free utility MozBackup at http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

Seems my copy updated itself a few days ago. I remember reading somewhere that folks were already getting it via the automatic update and I recall it asking me if I wanted to restart to apply updates either Friday or Monday.

Good stuff. :koolaid:

Edit... Apparently it already updated me to 3 Final since I had been running 3 Release Candidate. Cool. :)

Now when you go into about:config, they have a "don't **** with it unless you know what you're doing" warning...

Looks like among other things they boosted the max # port 80 connections per server by 5.

The integer you can add to speed up page painting time still works, too.

Seems smooth so far, I've been using 3.0 for almost a week.

The same file (I think) has been available as RC3 at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-rc.html for some time. Actually, for Windows it was available as RC2, but they had to make a few changes recently on the Mac version because of some quirky bug (?) in the Mac OS. They did a work-around.

My Firefox, on Windows, has not updated automatically nor is 3.0 final available via the update feature. I've been holding off to let the add-ons catch up with the application. I'm still not sure if RoboForm will work with 3.0. I'll find out later today. I know that adblock works.

Looks like it will work. It's one utility I can't live without.

RoboForm versions 6.8.6 to 6.9.89

Version 6.9.89

* Add support for Firefox 3.0 RC1.

Which distro, eddie?

My Fedora seemed to have had it awhile back it seems.

I went ahead and did an install. The installer said it was RC3 but the program says it is just 3.0 and that there are no updates. Apparently the RCs just don't report themselves with the RC status, at least in Windows.

Love the bookmark search feature!

I need to get a new computer... my desktop and laptop both are on their last legs, and I'd love to be able to utilize more of the media functionality available nowadays.

Been considering getting an HD Media Center PC, and just ditching all of the other computers, DVD players and TVs... problem is, then I'll probably be limited to Windows Vista.

Eddie, I got a new box last fall, it had the new millennium edition, err - I mean Windows Vista on it,

I put 3GB of ram in it, and I thought surely it would be screaming fast - I could not have been more wrong.

I actually tried it for a week, to be fair, but that was enough for me.

I made a G-parted live disk and wiped it out, went back to XP pro.

I just hooked mine to one of those Vizio LCD's they have at Sam's Club,

and I got a good bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and it's a great setup.

I do run vista sometimes as a virtual machine though...

Aw, man... you guys had me all excited. I was thinking maybe a sequel to the Clint Eastwood movie with the bad-ass Russian fighter plane was coming out... :P

Looks like they're currently suffering from their own success. I can't even load getfirefox.com or spreadfirefox.com.

I want to help, I really do! Maybe later in the afternoon...

Ah... the joys of bandwith congestion. Reminds me of the lines at the Apple store when iPhone came out.

Yeah, they are having a bit of a problem right now. Thought that might happen. Maybe that's because a million folks or so are trying to download at the same time? I couldn't get to the add-ons page either. Maybe in a day or so? :P
