Magpul backordered 2,000,000 ?

Was just up at a shop and the guy said he spoke with a Magpul rep today and they were already backordered by 2 mil magazines.  That's beyond comprehension for one company to have that much waiting to be made.

I think they need to hire extra workers and run 3 shifts.

1.  People need Jobs

2.  There is a demand for the product, it should pay for the extra workforce.

Now there's one of those...what do they call it? Shovel ready projects?

Somehow I don't see anyone pulling out the stops to get folks back to work.

Funny that you mention this. I was bored last night and decided to send Magpul a message on Facebook not really expecting a response.

I asked if they were running extra shift due to the shortage of Pmags and asked how many they could produce in a day.

I got the following response.

Hi Erik,

I'm afraid we don't release information of that sort. We are making them as fast as we can while maintaining our high quality standards.

Thanks for your support.

At least they responded, half the big companies like that don't even talk to us little people any longer.

The LGS I was at today had a case of them they restocked the shelf with. The price was low, and I assume the same price it was several weeks ago. There were a few that came in and bought a handful, but the shelf was still stocked when I left. I thought about buying some, but I have seven already and am not going to add to the upcoming drought by hoarding.

Good for you.  I am the same way. I only bought 10 friday evening, and that is plenty for me.  I know there are some who have bought a ton of them and are reselling on the auctions and making a killing.  I am watching an auction right now on GB for 100 pmags, and the price has hit $7500 with 20 minutes to go.  I know that is capitalism at its finest, and I won't berate someone for doing it.  However, that just doesn't sit right with me.  I have to be careful or I might become a closet socialist. :)

(edit) - I need to be fair to the seller since he listed these mags on the 6th, and that was before the buying frenzy started.

I ordered 5 from a website a few days ago and the order went through. Got an email today saying they had sold out and would put me on a list.

It's not a 'workforce issue'.  It's a plastic injection molding production line.  According to the Magpul rep at the NRA convention in April, they were already running at full production to try to get ahead of demand.  The only way to increase production is to make an additional production line.  VERY expensive!  And a permanent cost to supply what everyone hopes is a temporary spike in demand.

"We are fully supporting MOE and GEN M3 production at maximum possible capacity. We aren't doing colors right now since we can run faster if we don't have to change out materials, and it simplifies handling and packaging to speed things up. We will be shipping the GEN M3 20 rd mags by the end of the week, and GEN M3 windows are starting to run at production rates."

It’s expensive to train manufacturing employees you know you will have to lay off; most companies won’t do it. As has been pointed out; it’s a production machinery issue. Why spend the money to set-up more lines of injection molding machines for a product that may be banned?
