Need help picking UTG scope

I just picked up a S&W AR 15-22 MOE and am now looking for a scope.  This will be the first scope I've owned.  After searching for a few days I think I've got my search narrowed down to either the UTG 3-9x32 'Bug Buster' or the UTG 30mm SWAT 3-12x44 Compact IE scope.  The reviews look great for both of these with one exception.  Both sometimes mention that the reticle might have been canted a bit.  Both are in the $100 dollar range which is what I'm looking to pay.  I plan on using this just for plinking.  Mostly in the 25 to 100 yard rage.  Might like to play around a bit with 200 yrd if it can do it but that's not going to be a make or break thing.

I guess what's concerning me here is the magnification.  For the distances I'm talking which would be better?  Anyone got another suggestion for a good scope in the $100 range?  I'm open for ideas at this point.

I'm also seeing that to clear the Magpul pop-up sights I might have to go with a 1" scope ring for this UTG.  Anyone know if this is true?  Not looking to take the iron sights off.

Thanks.

For that kind of money go buy a Nikon P22. They are $150 and have a $30 mail in rebate on the BDC reticle model.

For a comparable scope to the UTG but much cheaper head to Walmart and look at the Centerpoint scopes. They are identical to the UTG and about $30 cheaper.

1" refers to the size of the hole not the ring height. Some scope have a 1" tube and some don't. The rings that say 1" are for scopes with a 1" tube. And for a AR15 make sure to get the "weaver" or "picatinny" style that are 7/8" wide and NOT the 3/8" "tip off" mounts.

I have the 3-9 'Bug Buster' and love it. I earned my Appleseed Rifleman's patch with it.

I have a Mohawk Armory AR15, flat top, with Magpul MBUS backup sights, like these, but I'm not sure if they're "Generation II". I'm getting accoustomed to the open sights but will be looking for a decent scope very soon. Something that will let me reach out to 200-300 meters. I was looking at the Centerpoint scopes at Walmart, one in particular that had a mildot reticle. When I went back a few days later, they were all gone. That's what I get for waiting. No worries, though, but I'm not in that big of a hurry. The rifle has a collapsible stock, so I think that a consistent check weld becomes an issue when using a set of scope rings that will clear the open sights, allowing me to use them w/o having to remove the scope. Maybe, perhaps, co-witness? I've got a BSA red dot sight on it, that came with the rifle. It's a P-O-S and the scope will eventually replace it.

Any ideas or advise would be most appreciated.

The Centerpoint isn't going to be any better than the BSA. If that is your budget they work fine. I have a Centerpoint on a rifle and it works fine for what I use it for.

The Nikon P223 looks like a good scope, at least the reviews are good. I just wish it came with a MilDot reticle. For some odd reason the MilDot scopes are much higher... go figure. Thanks!
