Proposed AWB legislation thread

Wanted to start a thread so we had a central place to share any info we come across on this new proposal; trying to find info out on these modifications Feinstein is going to introduce, the exemptions, allowances, what carries over from the '94 law.

If anyone already info, please post it because I haven't been able to find anything yet other than there are a bunch of loopholes closed, expecting magazines over 10 rounds to be restricted and there are 900 weapons specifically exempted.

It's not written or submitted yet, probably won't see actual text until it's submitted to committees in (she claims) both Senate and House,  first of the year, if indeed she even makes the first day submission as she claims.

I haven't even been able to ascertain which committees they go to first, to get a feel for that part of the process.

My only predictions:

1. any passed legislation won't be real quick, and likely as slow as anything else up there

2. will be an end to all private sales

3. even a EO, which could be quick, may not be immediately enforceable, depending on just what it is

I could see them reclassifying the weapons on the CA DOJ list as destructive devices under the NFA. There was talk of that after Aurora. If they do they will give a year or two amnesty period to register your firearms for free or become a felon overnight. They would do this to prevent from having to pay people for their property because there is no way the government could afford to pay even $100 each for all of them.

Yes I see them reinstating the awb and take away private sales and large capacity magazines without much opposition. Anything else extra might be harder to get. Edited by fivestring63

That's certainly possible, but not sure leaving them in our hands in any form will satisfy them very long.

Oh goody!  Another Christmas surprise that we don't get to know what's in it until it passes.  Let's all bend over!

Mike Flynn at Breitbart makes some good points, and I hope he's right.

Three Reasons Gun Control Isn't Going to Happen

In short:

1. Biden Gun Violence Task Force. In Washington, blue-ribbon task forces are reserved for issues where you want the appearance of taking action, without having to actually do anything.

2. 2014 Mid Term Elections. It is unlikely Harry Reid wants to add to the Democrats' challenge by making gun control an issue in the midterm.

3. Obama's Press Conference Today. (E)very question at the presser was on the fiscal cliff.  This suggests the the press corps doesn't really put a lot of stock into all the current noise about gun control.

What concerns me is that I see ourselves in a Lose/lose situation.

If we get 'lucky' and the future ban is 'minor' - We get to keep the guns but everything needs to go through an FFL/no more FTF transactions.  This will be tough to swallow but life will continue.  We'll learn to deal with the added paperwork/loss of some freedom.

But what happened on Friday will happen again.  (because we know gun control doesn't work).  This time, the 'task force' will then say, "See!  I told you, we didn't go far enough!  We needed a full AWB".  And then it'll pass... but let's say we're lucky and it's only on new 'black rifles'.  We'll take it and life continues and we learn to deal with it.

Until it happens again, and it will.  (because gun control doesn't work)   The same task force will again say, "See! I told you, we didn't go far enough.  We need to register."  And because we keep taking, we'll take it again until...
