Got my KP-31/M31 kit in the mail the other day. 80% receiver that I need to mill out, weld a barrel extension on, and weld the lower to the tube, also finish in my choice.

Sorry mods if this doesn't belong here since it's a kit build, but it is from the pre-WWII era so I figured why not stick it here. Feel free to move.

Got the main pieces more or less in place, minus the receiver to ejection port welding and the ejection port to trunnion weld. Decided to wait until I get the slots milled tomorrow. The barrel extension was also welded to the barrel to get the legal length and polished to make it all look like one piece.

Any updates? I've been looking at one of these kits myself and so far am only put off my the machining and welding as I'm not setup or even capable of either. I'd really like to build one though.

Actually yes. Got it all built and all that fun stuff. Forgot I posted this thread honestly.

To be honest all you need is a Dremel tool. I got tired of waiting for the mill to open up so I took matters into my own hands. Not the cleanest method, but it does work.  As far as welding goes there isn't a whole lot that needs to be done. Three trunnion welds and one on the rear receiver. I did however add some other welds in in order to be on the safe side after nearly sending the trunnion and barrel downrange. I'll post a completed, minus coating, picture or pictures.

I would say if you can get a kit you should buy it. It is by no means a precision rifle kit. It's heavy and has a truly horrendous trigger, but that comes with the territory of how they make the kit legal. It's more fun than anything. Feel free to ask any questions though concerning the build.
