Dilemma...

I don't know whether to  :poop: or go blind. I finally have the money to EITHER stock up on 223 ammo OR buy a pistol. I would normally opt to add to buy the gun but with all that's happening who knows which one is is gonna sky rocket in price first.

I personally think that ammo prices will stay pretty much the same. I see them possibly banning guns, but not the ammo.

With respect I think that is what the libs will be betting on. They will make it very expensive/difficult to buy ammunition or reloading supplies. They have already tried the AWB it only makes sense for them to go after ammo as well.

I myself am struggling with this question. Should I add another Glock to the stash or more ammo??? Wish it could be both.

They will not ban handguns anytime soon.  Too large of fight.  Ammo is just going to keep going up.  i would buy as much ammo as I could, or better yet buy components so you can make more with less invested.

I have an AR but no pistol. And i know they will be coming for the guns. But I can definitely see an exorbitant ammo tax to try and make it too expensive as well. Guns aren't much good without ammo... But it's kinda hard to conceal an AR....

I'm not trying to be a whiny baby by the way. It just seems like there's always a run on guns and ammo and I'm always broke when it happens. then when i finally can I get there and they just sold the last one. OK...Maybe I'm a little bit whiny..

They will try to ban, but it is a stretch
to think they will succeed.

I'll propose this for your consideration, not that I'm for it, but wait and see...

SIN TAX!  Yes, that's right. it's called a "sin tax"! Killing people whether intentional or not is considered a sin by many present and past.

Sin taxes have always been popular to assuage and stroke the masses to create additional revenue for the treasury. They gain popular support for things that kill people and are a drain on society, the politicians are going to jump all over it and have a hay day.

Least you think I've experienced the worlds biggest brain fart, consider.

Alcohol - an evil of society that kills and is taxed more than 50%

Tobacco - an evil of society that kills and is taxed more than 50%.

Gasoline - the bullet of cars, an evil of society that kills via automobile and is taxed just under 50%.

Ammunition - the scourge of society that fuels those evil black AR'S and other "automatic" style weapons that require a trigger pull for each shot.

Based on past history and logic, I believe state, federal, local government(s) will tax the hell out of ammunition / guns and as a feel gooder measure, say they will go towards the prevention of future atrocities. But in fact, will go into the general fund to finance the welfare and projects of the politicians choice.

Want a few dozen examples guys?

Where are you going to find .223 ammo?

Yep. Just saw a thing from D&T. They just got some .223, but there's a limit per customer. For once in my life, I planned ahead.

I like to call it a freedom tax. They can't take away your freedom so they'll tax the hell out of it. That's what i figure will happen with or without any kind of ban. I guess the pistol is the best choice. I can always buy a box of ammo here and there and there as I can afford it and find it.

Pistols are pistols and rifles are rifles. A pistol isn't a rifle, so buy the pistol.(i confused myself writing this!)

You broke my thinker thing...

And ar-47's I haven't been able to find a good bulk source of .223 since the election. Edited by sL1k

Hmm my earlier response assumed you had a pistol of some sort.

This is NOT the time to try to buy anything --- its the peak of the panic, highest prices.  I saw freaking .22 LR for $50 / 250 rounds of mid grade bulk ammo yesterday.   *Anything* you try to do *today* will mean wasting money on ultra high prices.

My advice is to be extra careful with your money.   Maybe pick up a used pistol, and consider reloading the ammo with a cheap single stage press.  The money saved from these could allow you to do both things instead of only buying a new pistol or only buying factory, price gouged ammo?

I know, i know...It sucks right now. I'm thinking of hitting a gun show or two and if I can't find a a fair price on a pistol then I'll look into reloading. I do at least know what the pistol I want *should* cost. The pistol was going to be my next big purchase anyway. Then some ammo, and then reloading stuff...But now I may have to reverse that. If I do that at least I can shoot the guns I have while I wait for stuff to come back in stock and return to more normal pricing...

With the shows I've been to it seems far fetched to imagine a fair price on anything right now. Maybe you'll find one of the handful of people looking to trade or sell for a decent price but it just seems most gun vendors gouge at shows as a matter of principal. YMMV
