What was the total turn around time?

It was delivered on July 8th, so they had it for 6 days, alot less than what the website stated. Now for Brownells to get some CTR's in and I will be ordering the rest of the lower parts and half way there.

Which version (mil or commercial) and color are you looking for?

I know Brownells has been BO'd on the mil-spec FDE color for some time, but I know of another site that has those in stock (if that's what you're looking for -- as that seems to be the highest in demand). I ordered mine at the beginning of last week and received it this past Friday.

Actually, not sure which color i am going with yet, probably the OD green. But it will be the commercial one for sure. I already have 2 other AR's with commercial tubes and I can just swap the furniture around, when i want a new look, if they are all the same tubes. Got an email from Brownells that said they should have them by the first of the month.

Ranier Arms has all three colors in stock, in the commercial CTR. I've spent several hundred dollars with them in the past couple of weeks, as one source of parts for my AR build... excellent service and very fast shipping.

Might want to give them a try.

Thanks for the link Verbal, but I get the dealer discount with Brownells. And there is quite a price difference. Thanks though.

You have just encountered one (of many) confusing interpretations of NFA.

When I read NFA, my understanding is that if you are registering an existing firearm that already has manufacturer info on it, there is no need to put Joe Blow, Winchester TN.

Now, you call NFA branch on any given day and ask that question to 10 people, 5 may tell you that you dont have to engrave your personal info.

The other 5 will tell you that you DO have to engrave.

Wait 3 days and call back with the same question; different answers...

While I personally feel that the law does not require your info to be engraved, we recommend it.

(actually, we recommend new receivers on Form 4s, but thats a different story)

well it worked no Joe Blow etc, thanks

It is my understanding that you are not registering an existing firearm if you add the short barrel to a full sized rifle. You are in fact making a new one and therefore you are the maker and are required to add your info. Look at a rewelded machine gun. They have Stemple's name or whoever else put it back together. Converted SP1s are the same way.

You are correct.

You (or the shop doing the work) are the "maker" of the firearm when converting an existing rifle into an SBR / NFA item. Therefore the maker must engrave their info into the rifle, along with submitting the appropriate paperwork to the BATFE and paying the tax stamp.

$200 tax is worth it. Wish they would allow importations if you paid the taxes. That alone would boost the ecomomy from LEGAL funds alone TAXES baby. Non-refundable
