This young lady was stopped during a "traffic stop" and handed the cop (?) her DL and HCP without being asked. By showing her HCP, she just may have saved her life!

I saw this on channel 2 and was thinking the same thing. He surely didn't want to tussle with a victim that was armed. I wish more people had HCPs. It would greatly reduce the amount of violent crime once criminals were consistently confronted with armed resistance. Of course, our DA will probably dismiss or greatly reduce charges on this guy which will embolden the criminal to step up his game when he gets released. The crime in Clarksville exists because of a slimy DA who provides a consequence free environment to criminals.

Good stuff there.  I've told my wife repeatedly to never, ever stop for an unmarked car on the side of the road.  Find a gas station, store, anywhere there's people before you stop.  If that's going to be more than a 30 second trip, call 911 and explain what you're doing.  She might have to deal with an annoyed cop, but that's better than the alternative.

I see crime just about every time I watch the news about something in Clarksville. Thanks for the explanation. me and my wife were wondering what the hell was going on up there.

TN should pass a law prohibiting unmarked cars from doing traffic enforcement...  It's too big of a safety risk for the public to be pulled over by unmarked cars....

 

And the reality is that marked cars doing traffic enforcement have a better effect on road safety than unmarked cars.

 

The only reason cities want to use unmarked cars is for revenue, NOT road safety, it's time we place the safety of our wives and daughters above revenue in this state.

I never had a problem with someone waiting to pull over in a safe lit parking lot. The only real chase I ever got into I didn't realize it was one until about 3 min into it.

We have a friend of our family (older lady) who was getting pulled over by a unmarked car. It was 1130 at night. She would not stop (she went about a half mile from where she first encountered the cop). She drove into the well lighted parking lot of the BP station before stopping. Unfortunely for her she go ticketed for failure to stop. She got stopped to begin with for having a burned out tail light. She explained to the officer that she felt unsafe and unsure about stopping where he wanted her to. He handed her the tickets and said take it up with the judge. That's pitiful in my opinion!

I completely agree. Unmarked cars or even slick top cruisers should not be used for traffic stops. I have also told my wife not to stop for them at night without finding a well lit, populated spot to do so.just turn on hazard lights and slow down. If close to a PD go there to stop. She may make a patrolman upset and will probably get a ticket but she won't be dragged from the car kicking and screaming by some thug wanting to get his rocks off.

I don't have any issue with the slick-top or low profile police cars, as long as they have all the usual decals designating them as police cars.  My issue is with fully unmarked (detective) cars being used for traffic enforcement.  To me, that's not "to protect and serve", that's "to catch and penalize". 

 

As for the "failure to stop" ticket...  yeah, I'd definitely take that one up with the judge.  If I had to pay an extra $100 to make sure my wife got home safe that night, I guess that'd be ok.  I'd probably list it as a donation and claim it as a tax deduction.  :)

 

I also have issue with stopping on the side of the interstate, regardless of time or type of car.  I guess I've watched too many of those "idiot drivers" shows where people plow into them during a stop.
