Fear of being committed; and we must pay...

“From what I've been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed," Flashman told FoxNews.com. "Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off.”

So. On the selfish whims of a troubled child rests the unalienable rights of a once great nation?

In the minds of the gun haters, the AR15 was calling to him, commanding him to do what he did. It's the gun's fault, you see.

I saw this report yesterday as well.  Maybe the mother was overwhelmed and I can't imagine what she was going through in her personal life.  The father seems no where to be found though he was providing a reported $250k per year in alimony support so maybe he thought he was "doing his part".  Obviously it's too late now, but if the mother was this concerned about her son, then why in the hell did she take him target shooting and allow him access to her gun collection?  I'm sure she never once envisioned he'd murder children but if you have concerns over his mental capacity, you have to take proper precautions.

Statistically, mentally ill individuals are far more likely to be victims instead of perpetrators. She probably feared for his safety and wanted him to be able to protect himself. What's missing from this story is if he ever made any violent threats to her or anyone else that went unheeded.  We may never know the answer to that considering both are dead and he doesn't appear to have had anyone outside the home to confide in.

I'm sure she never envisioned him shooting her.

You know, we all keep trying to make sense out of this tragedy and there just isn't any sense to make of it.

We'll almost certainly never know what really happened to him or in his mind that precipitated his evil actions.

We'll almost certainly never know what this mother/son family was like day to day...how they interacted...whether there were signs the her son was this dangerous.

Unfortunately, when an "evil gun" is involved; that is what always gets the attention and it's good, honest, people who understand the GOOD a firearm can do when a good person has it; yet we are the ones who suffer ridicule and hatred and new gun control laws.

Maybe the masses focus on the "gun" because to focusing on the real problems is just too painful and inconvenient and, maybe, a little to "close to home".

Folks like us on TGO and in particular, those who have made the decision to go armed, know that evil exists and that ultimately, the best way to overcome evil when it has a gun in his/her hand is a gun wielded by a good person who is willing to confront; even at the potential cost of his own life.

I have a relative that went through some bad times (very deep depression) after the loss of a spouse.  After some work we were able to get some help with a local mental health facility.  Before taking her back home there were several things we were told to do.  One of the things we were told was to remove all firearms form the home.   At the time we were told this we had all ready done this because I was concerned that something would happen that would lead to confiscation.

There is no sense to make out of this atrocity. It doesn't matter what happened between the mother and son, at

this point, and mistakes were made. This event has caused all the mayhem that politicians wish on us. It was a

cowardly act of multiple murders, by someone who made a decision. The whole of society is being blamed on it

and the number of victims created by this will be immeasureable.
