Stand back folks... I'm improving on perfection here!

Can't wait to here about your assessment of this. One of my complaints of shooting a Glock is that I have to slide my hand a little in order to reach and press the mag release. (The smaller hands, brick grip problem)

Last week, armed only w/ a small saw, a Dremel tool, and some sandpaper, I achieved perfection. I took a 2nd Gen G17 and cut the frame to accept G19 mags. Now it takes G19 and G17 mags as well as being a bit easier to conceal while keeping the longer G17 slide/barrel. It is truly perfect.

Just a joke, Mars. Please don't spend 20 minutes explaining why it's not really perfect but your HK is!:P

You know... one thing I am considering doing to my Glock 19 is having "rip free" notches cut into the very bottom of the grip side panels so that you can really get good purchase on the magazine base plate if you have to do a failure drill because of a double-feed malfunction.

I know that Burwell, Bowie and others do this to a lot of polymer handguns that come to them for custom work. It should be an easy thing to accomplish with a Dremel if you don't mind it being a little sloppy, but I think I am going to try to have it done with some precision so that it at least looks right.

Yes, Mars... the HK USP and P2000 already have this.

Vickers Tactical Extended Glock Mag Release

The Vickers Tactical extended magazine release arrived last Thursday. Installation was simple, requiring only 5 minutes of my time and the use of a small screwdriver.

The mag release is the perfect length, IMO. It's just long enough to make it easier to manipulate without having to drastically adjust your grip on the firearm but not so long that it's easy to accidentally hit. In my opinion this is one modification that anyone who carries a Glock should consider doing right along with quality aftermarket sights.

Wolff Stainless Steel Guide Rod and 15# Recoil Spring

These parts still haven't arrived. I am going to send an email inquiry to find out if the order has been delayed for some reason. They were set to go out US Mail.

Ameriglo Operator Night Sights

The first thing I did to my Glock 19 was install new sights. I chose the Ameriglo Operator sights for their bold, white outlined front sight and their subdued non-outlined rear sight. Dots were green up front, yellow in back.

When I took my class with CIS two weeks ago, it was the first time that I had really taken the Glock out to run it since the sights were installed. I had shot it a few times indoors at 7 yds but not at any greater distances than that. During my class at CIS, my point of aim and point of impact varied by about 2-inches at 14yds and it got worse the farther away from the target I got.

This past weekend I bumped into a guy at Owl Hollow Gun Club who also had Ameriglo Operators on his Glock 19. While looking at some other changes he had made to his gun, I noticed that the dot on his front sight was about 1mm lower than the dot on my front sight. We confirmed that by setting the guns side by side and comparing them. Suddenly my low points of impact made sense. I was having to cant the muzzle down quite a bit to make the dots all line up!

Saturday evening I ordered another set of Ameriglo sights but this time ordered some of their Pro Operator sights. These have a white outline on the rear dots as well as the front.

YES - I could have contacted Ameriglo and probably gotten a replacement front sight free of charge or at least at a discounted rate. I may still do that. But I've also discovered that my eyes really like the white outlined dots and that it helps me get a better "hard sight picture".

Anyway, more on this and the Wolff recoil spring assembly after I get the parts, install them and take it back out to the firing line.

David,

I wanted to recommend another extended release that I had installed. It is not a drop-in but he guys at Southwest Shooting Authority installed it for me. It takes a small frame adjustment but allows you to keep your firing grip during mag changes. I showed it to David this past weekend at Owl Hollow. Nice to meet you and your wife by the way.

I am not affiliated with Southwest Shooting Authority in any way. I am just a customer and if you are a Glock guy they do really nice work.

I think most people buy Glocks just so they can accessorize them. :hat:

I'm getting fuzzy dice and curb feelers for mine next.

I actually bought a set of black fuzzy dice to hang from my G23 once. Hell, I had everything else hung on it. I figured the dice would look spiffy. :)

I was pleasantly surprised to find my Wolff 15# recoil spring and stainless steel guide rod waiting for me in the mailbox when we arrived home yesterday. Installation was of course a piece of cake.

Range report forthcoming. Probably won't be until this weekend.

I was able to spend some time at Owl Hollow with my family this past weekend thanks to HunterH and JasonF who let us attend as their guests. One of these days we'll actually be able to make it to an orientation session and join, but...

The Glock runs like a sewing machine with the 15# recoil spring and stainless guide rod installed. Followup shots are much faster and more easily controlled thanks to the lighter spring. It was a worthwhile investment.

I also had a chance to replace my old set of Ameriglo Operator sights with a new set of Amerigo "Pro" Operator sights. Same basic design but the rear sight is set back on the slide a little further and uses white outlines around the tritium vials, much the same as Meprolights do.

The new sights fixed the problem with point of impact differing from point of aim.

All told, I am very happy with the Glock 19 as my carry gun and these little tweaks make it all the better for me.

I wasn't going to mess with my perfect G19 but this 15 pound recoil spring is something I suppose will happen to mine. I hate the way it hops almost straight up (It's a perfect hop I'm sure, I just don't like it but I AM not perfect the Glock of course is. Don't worry I'm still on the Koolaid.) and since getting the G26 which doesn't have as bad a hop even being a smaller pistol.

Sounds like the recoil spring and guide rod could make me love my G19 even more. Plus it's always good to have an extra right?

Tungsten,

When you ordered your 15 recoil spring did they send you the firing pin spring to go with it?

If you ordered directly from Wolff they may not have packaged it the same as midway. Just curious.
