There are some people in this world that don't need guns,,

I live in a subdivision with a lot of elderly and kids always walking or going to school in the morning.

So at 8:30 this morning I hear a shot go off which I thought was a shotgun in my front yard.

I looked out the window to see my neighbor's friend on his back porch sitting a rifle down and trying to act like nothing happened.

If this hadn't been someone I've known for 10 years I'd called the police and still think I should have but instead just called him and told him what I thought about that stupid move.

Their excuse was it was a Muzzle loader without a round in it, like that makes it ok. A gun is a gun.. I don't think the police would of had their pistols holstered had they shown up..

I should have called the police just for that stupid excuse.

What really eats me up about it is had I been at the mailbox, I might have drawn on them thinking I was being shot at and where the two drunks pointed the gun after that might have made the day a lot worse than it started.

I guess I need to let it go but I can't stand goofballs that make gun owners look like idiots.

I'm sure he'll want to discuss it tonight which I have to say I'm looking forward to so I can finish telling him what I think about the whole thing..

Most of my neighbors have solid backstops in their backyards, as do I. When I hear them out shooting I know I am not in any danger and go on about my business. They do the same when I'm out back load testing or getting in a little .22 practice. I love living in the country!;)

Am I wrong for getting pissed at him? I can take things to the extreme sometimes but I just think there had to be some thought before you pull the trigger on any gun..

I guess this situation gets on my nerves because I had to shoot a dog in a city street once with a shotgun in self defense.

I was cleared of everything at the scene and handed back my gun.

I know how bad that situation could had gone had I not looked at what was behind and around the target.

Those two shooting off the back porch I know didn't think there was anything wrong with it nor did they look at what was around them.

nope...in a populated area, just popping off rounds for no reason is plain stupid.

No matter if there wasn't a ball loaded or not. You're right...the police wouldn't look at it that way. Your neighbor would have a Glock in his ear

Stupid, just plain stupid. You should call the police. What happens one day when they decide to, just see what happens when it does have a round in it?

and to answer your question...

Are your neighbors as Stupid as Mine?

Why yes! Yes they are, I live in Memphis, surrounded by drug dealers and morons.

Glad I live in the sticks. Have decent neighbors also. I shoot in my backyard couple times a week but have a very good backstop. My neighbor is a deputy sheriff and also shoots often in his yard. Everything good out in the sticks. But I can see a problem in a crowded neighborhood and probably in the city limits with ordnance against it. I would probably have a few words with the neighbor to, but would choose my words wisely because he is after all still your neighbor and unless you are thinking about moving it could make home life difficult.---MP

if the gun was actually without a ball what caused the compression of the powder and subsequent BOOM? I will have to experiment with my BP stuff tomorrow, but I do not think powder that is not compressed by something will make that kind of noise.

If it in fact did go BOOM, I would question him at to what he shot out of it.

I think he had to have something stuffed over the powder and down the barrel.

I don't know anything about muzzle loaders but I had the same thought,

I know how loud it was inside my house, outside It probably sounded like a Mosin.

Can't be as stupid as mine across the road.

The house over there only sits less then 20 feet from the road.

They tryed on the 4th of July last year to burn their house down by setting off bottle rockets and the such off of their 4 foot square front step right into the roof overhang.

Then last year i spotted one of them getting their stash out of a brick in the front of the house which did i mention is LESS then 20 FEET from a main heavy travel (well atleast for my area it is) road in the daylight on a saturday.

Just last week one was out mowing all 20 feet of grass in the front with a riding mower that is the manual shift type with a gear selector on the side and a forward reverse lever between your legs.

After a few mins he was sitting still trying to rock it forward why jumping on and off the brake and moving the gear lever. After a few mins of that he walked over and asked if i knew anything about them and i asked if the lever was in forward and got the answer. What lever?

No i think mine are in the running for moron's of the year.

Not gun related, but when I told my neighbor I was planning on adding a bathroom in the loft bedroom at my house she asked how I was going to get the water to flow up that high. Doh! :D

Gray now, maybe she colors it to blend in with the smart people. I hope not since that didn't work out too well for her. :D
