My attempt at stock painting. Let me know what you think!

Recommended Posts

As the title said let me know what you think. This is my Remington 597. The camo stock was faded and just didn't look good. Cheap gun so I said what the heck. I sanded the stock with 400 grit and then cleaned it with alcohol. I used the rustoleum brand camo paint and pine needles for the pattern. The pictures don't really accurately portray the colors but it is somewhere in the middle of the two. I couldn't get good light anywhere in the house.

Oh and Zeke (my dog) says hi. He photo-bombed the one pic.

Yeah I am gonna have to get a good camera and quit using the iPhone. It really does look great in person. Pine needle was the only thing handy and not already on the ground and clean so that was my only option. I debated using a matte clear coat but decided it would be easier to touch up without it on there.

That is very ironic because I'm in the process of doing my 597 right now as well.  I was not going that extravagant.  Just coyote and I was going to do the dust cover and sights as well just for the heck of it.  Cheaply made as they are mine has a really nasty seam all the way down the middle of the stock top and bottom.  I've about gotten that sanded out.  My screw that holds the barrel to the receiver is stripped so I'm going to have to get another one of those before everything goes back together.

Looks good to me, good fades with a rattle can. As for pictures, I'm bad about doing them inside since its easier, but sunlight really helps the picture. I take a lot with my iPhone and most are inside, but the ones taken outside with my iPhone always turn out better and show off the true colors more.

When it comes down to it krylon is just a great choice. Cerakote is awesome but I don't have gunrunners skill with that stuff. It looks great though, the best part is if you scratch it up its an easy fix.

I think it looks good. I painted a stock once. I did some research and found people saying to use acetone to clean all the dirt/oil off. they said alcohol still had a lil oil residue. But if it holds Id say your good. you can get a big can of acetone for like 7 bucks at wally world. itll last u a lifetime.
