Texas Schoold District to let teachers carry guns

The article states that this had been in the process for a while now and is therefore probably not a response to the school shooting in connecticut.  Basically texas law allows you to carry with written permision from the school and the school district is re writing their policy to allow teachers and other employees to carry. 

 

"In order for teachers and staff to carry a pistol, they must have a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun; must be authorized to carry by the district; must receive training in crisis management and hostile situations and must use ammunition that is designed to minimize the risk of ricochet in school halls."

Great to hear! Now if the writers would quit using the term "packing heat" at all the wrong times.....

Glad that TX is taking steps in the right direction. I applaud them also for requiring additional training for the teachers since simply carrying a weapon doesn't mean you'll be able to effectively deploy one when needed.

Still a good article. I would wager that their track record of 0 school shootings is probably going to stay that way.

I've always hated that term. I had a friend who knew I carried, and every time I saw him he would ask "Hey, are ya PACKIN'?". Grrrrrrrrrrr.

wouldnt this change their job title and could force schools to pay them more?
