Buy the plain jane version, then it's an ugly STEEL brick. ;) I was so mad at the initial report I couldn't begin to post a response.

Yeah I know. It is crazy to think there are people like that roaming around. It makes me frightened and angry at the same time.

Thoughts on this now that I've had some time to step back and think about it a little more...

#1. Some people are inherently evil and need to die. The adult male attacker deserved to die. Unfortunately was able to murder the child before meeting his own fate. That's the true shame of the situation.

#2. The bystanders have to live with the result of their inaction for the rest of their lives. I'm sure it will be pure torture to some. To others it will perhaps embolden them to ACT the next time they see a child being victimized now that they've seen what happens when they don't.

#3. This reinforces something we were told in the defensive pistol class I took this past weekend. In moments of crisis, people will have one of three reactions: They will fight, they will flee or they will freeze. These people apparently froze, despite what sounds like feeble attempts to reason with someone who only spoke and understood violence.

There's a whole lot to be disgusted with in this situation.

Just another reason to always be armed.

I can hear the converation between myself and the LEOs. "I sure hate my grouping was the bad. Hey do you think you could put a few rounds into him before they move the body???? That way we could compare ballistics."

What kind of human beings could watch this happen to a child? three cheers for the officer that dropped the prick ( but he died way to easily from where I sit.) For the folks with their thumbs up their ass you can rot in hell for doing nothing to help that kid, your as bad as the prick beating the little kid if not worse.

I am physically ill from reading that. Seriously... wtf. How could anyone do that? And how could anyone stand by and WATCH it happen?!

Usually I am one to say that "We weren't there, we shouldn't judge their actions"... yadda. However, in these circumstances, there is absolutely no fathomable reason why the GROUP of bystanders couldn't stop a SINGLE man from doing these horrible things. Does CA have a "Good Samaritan" law or anything like that? If so, they should be charged as well.

Needless to say, he would be beaten and perforated regardless of method of perforation. IF there was enough room, I'd hit with the d*mn car. And then back over him. Then repeat a few times.

Kills me inside. I see my kids in that place and it makes me mad as hell and sick to know that someone is feeling infinitely worse than I can even imagine. If that was Crockett Co., the cops would have been cleaning up a stain on the highway. Death by group-stomp to head. And some shotgun blasts in for good measure. Hell ain't hot enough.....

Police: Father believed to have beaten tot

TURLOCK, California (AP) -- Police on Monday identified a man who was fatally shot by an officer for allegedly refusing to stop beating a toddler to death along a remote road.

Sergio Casian Aguilar, 27, parked his truck on an unlit road Saturday night, removed a 2-year-old boy from his car seat and proceeded to stomp, kick and punch the boy to death, authorities said. The boy was unrecognizable when he was pronounced dead at Emanuel Medical Center, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department said.

Authorities have not released the boy's name but say they believe he was Aguilar's son. The Stanislaus County coroner and the California Department of Justice are testing DNA to confirm the relationship.

Several motorists called 911 and tried to stop the beating, authorities said.

Dan Robinson, a local volunteer fire department chief, told The Modesto Bee that at first glance, he thought the child was a dead animal in the road. He said when he realized it was a child, he tried to stop Aguilar.

He said Aguilar had a "total hollowness in his eyes" and talked calmly of the boy being filled with "demons."

Witness Lisa Mota told the San Francisco Chronicle that Aguilar told people who tried to stop him that the boy was "trash."

Responding to 911 calls, a Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department helicopter landed in a dairy pasture near the scene. A Modesto police officer, Jerry Ramar, fatally shot Aguilar after he failed to heed the officer's warning to stop beating the child, authorities said. Aguilar flashed his middle finger at Ramar before Ramar shot him in the forehead, police said.

"I have never seen anything like that before and I hope I never have to again," Ramar said of the beating.

Authorities have not released the name of the boy's mother.

Aguilar had no previous criminal history, police said. Results of toxicology tests on Aguilar are expected in four weeks.

Ramar has been placed on paid administrative leave, a routine response for officer-involved shootings.

Nice shootin Jerry!!

Even if they froze, why not cover the child and take the beating? Seems like these folks stood around and had a conversation with the bastard....

Reading the account makes me sick to my stomach.

This reminds me of some of the stuff I read in "No Country for Old Men".

When sheriff talks about how it's an evil he's never seen before. Wonders

where it came from... when did the people start turning into monsters like

this... and what it means for a society.
