Finally shot my Mosin sniper

Finally got a chance to shoot my recently acquired Mosin Sniper. My son and I went to Norris Saturday. I was surprised to see they have added a new shorter handgun range. The rifle side was running over. We had to wait about 45 minutes to get a spot. I would say the scope was off about 5 feet at 100 yards. It took a while to get it on the paper, since I am the first to admit I don't know much about scopes. With some help from the guy at the next bench I finally got to hitting in the general area of what I was aiming at. My least bad 5 shot group was about 7 or 8 inches. I blame myself more than the gun since I had carpel tunnel surgery on my right hand less than a month ago and I was unable to grip the gun tightly. We had a great time anyway and can't wait to shoot some more/

The bad thing with these sniper is they spent zero time aligning the scope to the bore.  I made one with a accumounts setup and spent at least a couple days fileing the pad areas to get a good bore alignment with the scope neutral.  Yours might need a little love in that department.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get it? I've been looking around since I flipped across Enemy at the Gates last Saturday.

Yep. I hope to get better accuracy. I can do that well with the iron sights on my other Mosin

What ammunition were you using.  It's not fair to the rifle to expect great things shooting that comblock surplus filth.

Came from Classic Arms. The previous batch, not the ones they are selling now. I was shooting surplus ammo, but this batch has been reasonably accurate in my other Mosin. I have been trying to get out again to try to get it sighted in. Maybe this saturday will cooperate.

I took the Mosin to Norris this morning and finally got it sighted in. After that, hitting clay pigeons at 100 yards was fairly easy. Dang awesome. Now I need to get some quality ammo and see what it will do.

Hi Glen, David R here. The guy next to you shooting the bench rest gun and the M44 at Norris. Thanks for letting me shoot the sniper. Just ordered one from classic and hope its as nice as yours.

Also just finished modifying a 91/30 in laminated stock. installed a Timney trigger,(lots of wood removal) scout scope and did some barrel floating work and bolt work.

very crisp 3.5 lb. trigger pull and the sniper bolt is silky smooth. Waiting on a decent day for Norris.

Hey David great to put a name with the face. That m44 had an incredible trigger. Not many good shooting days right now. Would love to see that 91/30. Maybe we will cross paths at Norris again.

You guys go up to Norris? I like it up there

I go as often as I can but its a long drive for me. About 35 miles. I also go to gunny's indoor range in Maryville quite a bit.
