I found this old knife, covered in rust, in the bottom of a toolbox that has set undisturbed for at least 10 years, possibly longer.  A few hours and a lot of elbow grease later, a knife emerged.  I believe this to have belonged to my wife's grandfather. I am going to give it to my son, a knife that was his great grandfathers.  The antique look of it makes it one of a kind. I am not sure what type of steel it is, but I do know the guard is brass. I hope my son keeps this and passes it on...

Does it have any production markings on it? Noticing the round almost broomstick style handle adn rectangular brass guard, you may have a fantastic heirloom to pass to your son. It has a hand made look to it. That would be awesome for your son to get to use the knife his great grandfather made.
