I found this article and thought it was noteworthy..

There is another one from the Wall Street Journal but you have to be a paid member - my point is this is verified by at least more than one source.. it is real.

In a secret government agreement granted without approval or debate from lawmakers, the U.S. attorney general recently gave the National Counterterrorism Center sweeping new powers to store dossiers on U.S. citizens, even if they are not suspected of a crime, according to a news report.

Just because it was done in the past, does not make it right today. This is another step closer to Authoritarian rule.  Both sides are to blame for this as well.  Don't just point the finger at Obama and his administration.  W started a lot of this crap.  The current administration is just carrying on what he started.

Seems like I heard someone say that recently.

Yeah, constant echo in here.

The actual quote, for anyone unfamiliar:

"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws."

That quote should be placed in the halls of Congress, so every one of those bastards might realize what they are doing.

Eventually, all those laws end up affecting them after everyone else they throw their tyranny at.

It's like they (the politicians) don't understand they are undermining their own liberties - but then again, they have always played by a different set of rules than us common folks.. This is getting ridiculous and I want to know where the good guys are at that would speak out about this? Why isn't the mainstream television media isn't reporting this ad nauseum? Aren't they supposed to be the figurative fourth branch in the system of checks and balances?

The concept of the media or press as a fourth branch stems from a belief that the news media's responsibility to inform the populace is essential to the healthy functioning of the democracy  Source

Maybe because it doesn't bring in the ratings and fit an agenda like a good ol shooting tragedy? Maybe because they are controlled, bought and paid for? - Maybe I'm too suspicious and they are all just too lazy and not capable of producing real news vs. their opinion/entertainment journalism?

I think this below is relevant in my argument against the ethics of most mainstream media in their silence\complacency on issues like this..

Also, there's this..

The newest version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) includes an amendment that would legalize the use of propaganda on the American public, reports Michael Hastings of BuzzFeed.

The amendment — proposed by Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) and Adam Smith (D-Wash.) and passed in the House last Friday afternoon â€” would effectively nullify the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948, which explicitly forbids information and psychological operations aimed at influencing U.S. public opinion. http://www.businessinsider.com

In my opinion, a lot of what you hear from mainstream media isn't true and what you don't hear is even worse.
