Advantage of Weaver base over tip off?

I haven't used a tipoff mount in eons. Nothing wrong with them IMO. It's just that Weaver (Picatinny) is the standard, so it's a lot easier to change optics down the road. For example, if you want to change to a red dot later, and a mount is included, it will be for Weaver style mounts.

You can always add them later, right?

Besides simply having more surface area for the surfaces to grab, Weaver, especially if you mean Picatinny compliant, allows mounts such that the scope mount screw anchors in between the slots, absolutely preventing forward/backward movement.

I had a tipoff rail on one of my 10/22's and the scope would walk off the back over time regardless of tightening to max, loctite, whatever.

I replaced it with a Weaver type base that had the cross slots and Weaver type rings, problem solved.
