Getting ready to paint my 597's stock. Any tips or suggestions?

Recommended Posts

As the title states I am getting ready to pain my old camo 597 stock. I am wanting to go with either a dull gray or desert tan color. I have never done this before and short of sanding it down and hitting it with Krylon I don't know where to begin. There are so many different methods on the web I thought I'd ask the folks I know. I am looking for the easiest method with the best results (I know the two don't mix). Thanks!

3 or 4 colors of flat Krylon, a mesh type laundry bag, and your imagination. Spray it a flat base color first, then lay the mesh over it and spray different colors to get the camo effect. Overlap by moving the mesh and spraying some more. The more irregular the better. You can leave it like that and touch up as needed by repeating the process, or top coat it with a good satin polyurethane spray to help durability. Have fun! I know guys that paint their high end rifles using this method. Hey if its good enough for our boys fighting in the middle east, it's good enough for me.
