Car audio question

I know there are some folks here that know more about this stuff than I do. :surrender:

I have a Clarion DXZ655MP, and it uses the Clarion CeNet port on the back. I want to go from the CeNet port, and put a female USB jack in the dash that I can connect an iPhone cable to. I don't want to go straight from the CeNet port to the iPhone, because I don't want to have a cable hanging out from under the dash when nothing is connected to it. I'd like to go with a plug in the dash to keep everything nice and clean.

How can I do this? I can't find adapters from the CeNet port to USB. Am I just out of luck?

another option to consider.

FM transmitter.

I don't have an Iphone and I don't have this brand. I have used some cheap ones over their years and they always worked well.

You will never have decent sound quality with an FM transmitter. The signal to noise ratio on FM modulation is abysmal.

guess I never noticed over the sound of the road , motor noises, and wind.

It will transmit, yes.

It is years since I have been into mobile audio, but fifteen to twenty years ago I was very heavy into it.

Ideally you want your signal as clean as possible. That means digital (CD versus Cassette or Broadcast) MP3s are the way now. By using a patch cable and a dedicated input you don't have loss. I think most FM s/n is somewhere around 80, but for a digital media, like a CD, a quality receiver can run 105+ s/n.

Think of when you are listening to the radio, and you switch to a CD and it is louder, though you didn't change the volume.

Cleaner signal, more power.

Then you start going crazy and you put sound deadener everywhere, run crossovers to all your speakers to control the frequencies, you are measuring mounting distances and adjusting fade and balance...

It becomes a sickness. Edited by Murgatroy

I'm not familiar with Clarion products. But i had a similar experience when i had an Alpine reciever in my vehicle. Had to use an adaptor to connect an ipod to my reciever( and it ended up being a long conspicuous wire (plug) to the ipod. Plus it didn't charge my ipod. Looked messy and ihate having so many wires in the way.

When I saw this http://www.amazon.co...s=sony reciever

I knew i found a replacement to my cd unit. I have this unit in my vehicle and have not had a problem out of it. Just remember you have to have the wire harness adaptor for your vehicle.

Direct ipod connection ( or any other mp3 player) is best. FM transmitters aren't the best for connectability. plus the problem finding a unused station and then having to find another one when you travel.

Thingi like about the sony unit is it hides the ipod out of the way, keeping everything nice and neat up front. Plus it charges the unit and if you have a bluetooth capable phone you can acept calls thru it and stream pandora or another internet radioservice thru the reciever.

Mine came with a remote, and the face is removable. Edited by Wyldk2

I recently bought a new radio for the truck, and it came with one of those USB ports. I found a 16gb USB flash drive, that is really short. In fact the usb plug portion is about twice as long as the body part of it. It sticks out from the radio about a 1/4 inch, so it actually looks like it is part of the radio. The best part is no wires anywhere.

Anyway, I've got about 100 albums on there, after removing some of the songs I don't care for from each album, plus a large folder of one hit wonders. Then I just put the player on random. Every song is one I like and I rarely hear a song repeat. I call it Dave-FM to my wife.
