Suppressed Savage BTVS .22

Recommended Posts

Just got my rifle back from being threaded by the guys at Coal Creek and was able to try it out with my Silencerco Sparrow that is still in paperwork purgatory. They did a great job and even threaded it for the special O-Ring engagement that SIlencerco recommends for the Sparrow. Figured I'd post a couple pics of the set up.

Updated with pics of thread protector and threading.

gnm ... Mind explaining this. "special O-Ring engagement"

I have a sparrow waiting on paperwork as well, and haven't seen a mention of this. perhaps I should do more research, but I'd figure I'd atleast ask!

Any closeups of the threading job?

I was curious to this as well so I researched it. Apparently the sparrow has an O-Ring .475'' into the threading. Most pistol threads only extend .400'' so the O-Ring wouldn't be reached to make the seal. I forgot to take a pic of the threads but can do that when I get home tonight. It's basically a little extra non-threaded portion of the barrel before the threads actually start that seats nice and snug against the O-Ring inside the sparrow when you thread it on all the way. It helps to keep the threads clean and to keep the suppressor tight on the weaon. For example, my Ruger 22/45 Lite's threads are only .400'' so when I thread it on there is still an extra .075'' of space inside the sparrow before it would engage the O-Ring. So I have to check it every now and then to tighten it a little. It's no big deal but I figured since I was having the rifle threaded from scratch I'd go ahead and ask them to do it. SIlencerco's website has the special instructions for the gunsmith to follow as well as the standard threading instructions if you choose to go that way. Edited by gnmwilliams

Threaded barrel looks great!

Let us know how she shoots with the sparrow when you get your stamp!

I've actually been able to shoot it but just at the store. Can't take it home yet :( I will say that it shoots great but I want to really take it out for a spin once I'm able to get it outdoors. The indoor range just doesn't promote the best atmosphere for extended testing. One thing though about the difference of it on a pistol vs. a rifle is that that little sucker gets HOT on a pistol. I got a nice little surprise the first time I went to take it off my Ruger, :) Hot potato!

With CCI subsonic (Eley, Wolf etc) it will be very quiet. For just some yard plinking, CCI Quiet and the can is just that, quiet!

All you hear is the firing pin and the bullet hit the target!  :)

Good to know. Here in the middle of Oak Ridge youi gotta be sneaky sneaky. They don't take too kindly to any sort of projectile weapon being fired. Although I was told, off the record, by the Sherrif that, "You should even be able to fire that without anyone noticing." Like the judge will take that into consideration if I'm caught.
