Pleasant surprise on a recent Sig purchase.

I swore off buying Sigs some time ago. Said I would not buy anymore. But what are you gonna do? :surrender:

Anyway I came across a good deal on a great looking 226R 9mm with E2 grips and SRT trigger installed. So I send off a money order and within a week I have it.

When I open the box which has a 2011 production date, I notice something instantly odd about it.

The slide has german proof marks as well as the frame. :stunned:

Anyway, I toss it back in the box and head home with it.

When I get home I start to look it over more carefully. On the left side of the frame behind SIG SAUER it has stamped MADE IN GERMANY. On the right side it has DE at almost the end of the slide and the german proof mark after the serial number. The frame also has the german proof mark after the serial number. All three numbers (the barrel, slide, and frame) match. After breaking down I notice that on the back side of the barrel it also has the DE, proof mark, and date code. Also the slide is the old breach block/roll pin style and doesn't appear to be Nitron. Don't know that there are any other diferences other than what I have mentioned, but it was a pleasant surprise anyway. The seller never mentioned any of this in the emails or in the for sale add. I will get some pictures later. My wife has her camera at a baptism. I did find this picture online, but mine has E2 grips.

Something else odd I noticed is that this picture shows an internal extractor, mine is external.

Anybody know anything about these? Until I saw this I would have swore that you couldn't get an all German railed 226.

Excellent good fortune! I just viewed a youtube about that firearm that states there were 400 of those shipped to the U.S. from Germany. With the rail it is obviously a newer German manufacture.

Many Sig fans value the German proofed and matching serial number Sigs including me! Jealousy here.

Thanks. Think I found the video you were referring to. Can't say it was much of a video. But that one is set up identical to mine. I will probably put some Trijicon HDs or Ameriglo night sights on it in the next week or so. I don't think I would have paid extra because its german proofed, but it was a nice surprise on top of an already pretty good deal.

Also the E2 grips felt really odd to me when I first picked it up, but they are growing on me.

Hopefully I can run a box or three through it sometime this week. Edited by twpayne75

You are going to LOVE the SRT trigger.

I already have a 226 Elite that has it. To be honest the SRT trigger is a waste on me. I mainly carry a V1 P30L and that is what I mainly shoot. So I let the trigger go way farther forward than it needs to for an SRT.

Congratulations twpayne75! I have a question, what is Nitron? I thought that was just a name for a Sig model!
As Kong mentioned it's a finish of Sig's. But I don't think this slide has a Nitron finish. It looks more like the finish I see on older Sigs. It's more of a matte blue. The Nitron to me is more like a deep semi-gloss parkerized finish that gets shinier with oil.

Only thing I can say is "Lucky Dog". Wished I had that kind of luck.

Thanks man. Wife was out with the camera all day yesterday. Will get some pictures later today. Found a good deal on a set of Truglo TFOs ($35 shipped), so they should be here by the end of the week. The more I fondle it with the E2 grips, the more I like it. Will probably leave them on it unless I come up on a set of Hogue Extreme Aluminums decent. That's whats on my Elite and I love them.

I am confident I can get my money back out of it if the need ever arrises. Still can't figure out why the seller never mentioned it. He had to have noticed. I bought it from the Sigforum classifieds.

I suspect getting your money back out of it is an underestimate if listed in front of knowledgeable Sig folks.

I think if the seller had mentioned this in the add or had better pictures showing it would have helped him greatly. He emailed me pictures but they looked like cheap cell phone pictures and I could not see the proof marks, or any other markings really. I was looking more for wear, gouges, or knicks in the finish. It had actually been for sale for about a week when I noticed it.

There are many knowlegeable people on Sigforum. Had it been in the description or showed up in the pictures I think it wouldn't have made it more than an hour.

Think I am going to run a couple magazines through it and check for function, then probably put it away.

I doubt it will ever turn into a 210, but may be nice to have put up.
