Think a .40 will take out a bear?

Carry a spare magazine or get ya an esstended clip.

You know what they say, If something is worth shooting, it's worth shooting twice.

I have seen a bear in Perry County, TN before. I was working on my pond when it ran to the top of a ridge, stopped then walked off. I asked the Warden and he said there have been other sightings. My grandmother said she has see them in the same area before, but when she was a teenager (she hasn't been to the pond in 30 years). My brothers who still live there said they saw one about 2 weeks ago, I need to set a camera up and try to catch it on film.

There were a couple of black bears, a mom and a cub spotted just north of Dyersburg last year. West TN and North MS is not suppose to be bear country.

Blame it on the high water on the Mississippi River

I disagree at this point, the water level on the Miss river currently is normal, (give it a week or so and that will changed because of the rain water in Iowa and the other parts of the midwest) Memphis flood stage is 32 feet, we are at 24.5 feet currently and is expected to crest at 28 feet on June 26th. The water is not out of it's banks currently.

There habitat is East TN and Central Arkansas but there is a narrow strip of habitat that looks as if it runs along the Arkansas River to near Helena AR then goes south along the Miss. River to New Orleans. I didn't know this. Well, here is a map. So instead of following their boundaries, this bear went north!

No, but it will slow the person running with you.

Wow, I didn't realize black bears were so wide spread. I always just figured they were an Appalachian animal. Guess you learn something new everyday.

The river has been up and down with record levels through out the spring with flooding up and down stream. Once an animal vacates their territory, they do not necessarily go right back when the water goes down.

I can see that, the river was out for a long time this spring.

Look at that map, look at Alaska, looks like a dog. Well it does!
