Recoil spring test??

Recommended Posts

I have a Glock manufactured in 02 that I got second hand. Not knowing the round count I have ordered a recoil spring just so I know that it is new and hasn't had 10k rounds fired on it. I was reading online and watching some videos about a "recoil spring test" that tested how easily the slide went back into battery. Does anyone have any words of advice on this? I am just curious if this is an "accurate" test. I will be replacing the spring along with a few other parts( slide release, mag springs, etc.) either way since it is such a cheap part.

If it's a G27 then that recoil spring was bought last August-ish.....I generally replace my recoil springs every 5k. That one definitely doesn't have anywhere close to that amount.

I picked up some gen2 G19's a little while back and replaced their springs just to get an accurate idea of when the next replacement window should be. Your plan to replace the other small parts is good. It's usually a good idea to keep things like that on hand.

Yeah its not that one. This one is a G23 I got from a guy on Armslist. It's a little more worn and the slide stop lever is bent out. For some reason I think folks bend those out on purpose so they can use them to release the slide easier. I have been trying to master the thumbs forward grip but keep hitting that darned lever and closing the slide on an empty chamber.

Anyways it sounds like it's best to just replace all the unknowns with new parts and keep count from there so that is what I will do. Just seemed like this "test" is more or less a guess.

I tested my glock 19 that was made in 95, i had put probably 5k rounds through it never had a FTF or FTE i could tell racking the slide was a little light, did the test, didnt go into battery and ordered another glock guiderod/spring for $7 redid the test and of course it went into battery. Its what glock amorers are taught. Im sure i could have gotten another 10k rounds through it with the old one but for how cheap the glock parts are i didnt want to chance it.
