C&R Transfer Question for the Pros

Recommended Posts

Got a question which I am sure is simple but I cant find the answer. I am wanting to buy a C&R categorized pistol from a friend in Illinois that has a C&R. For me to get the gun I need to 1) Go to my ffl and get him to send my buddy his info 2) Get my buddy to send my ffl his own C&R info 3) Go through the normal procedure with my ffl once the gun arrives. Is this correct? Any help is appreciated.

Your buddy's C&R is moot. A C&R grants special exemptions for acquiring firearms but gives none for selling them. Unless you have a C&R, it has to be done like any other intersate transfer via FFL.

The only extra step is that the seller has to record the sale in his bound book.

Do you have a C&R? If not, get one and make life easier on both of you.
