Right on Gunslinger, you are gonna love that stuff.

Get a mess of powder, a bag of balls, some caps and have at it.

Make sure you take some pics to post up. Action pics are the best!

Congrats, and welcome back to the fold, Gunslinger! I personally will blame every BP purchase for the next three years on Mike, somehow I think he will bear up under the heavy load of guilt, though...

Mike, by the way - you CAN have too many you-know-whats. But I went nuts today (gunshops do that to me) and picked up 4 more. Maybe I'll start growing tomatoes.....

hahahahah Nice Job Mark!!

I went by the gunshop and Julie just looked at me and said "I need a new pair of sunglasses"....so we went to rock creek outfitters, where I got her a new pair of sunglasses, a new pair of sandals, and I got myself some five finger foot sandals (they're the ones with the individual toes....oh..and I bought myself a new climbing helmet, a mamut...

here's the shoes I got...

vibramfivefingers.jpg

so no firearms for awhile....but I DID buy some ammo yesterday. 150 bucks worth.

does that count?

Congrats on the new shooters gunslinger! I concur about the pictures! those are needed

Brother, don't take this wrong - I mean this with the greatest respect; those are the one ugliest pair of shoes I've seen since... well, since ever. But hey, if you like 'em, cool!

Posted

Tower, Phantom's son Austin has them same shoes ( are they shoes?). If I see you wearing them I am so going to crack on you for it. :P:P

Mark, if the guilt overwhelms you feel free to send them things to me for safekeeping.

Will they let you fire them from the boat? LOL And I think I might be scared to see the results of your growing tomatoes. Whenever you get paroled I will be happy to help you put them through their paces. The rifles I mean, not the 'maters.

No, Mike, unfortunately I can't have a personal firearm aboard. I did get on an M2HB last time I was in the gulf, though.

I have 4 sitting in the crate in a friends' garage here in Norfolk. Until he gets an opportunity to visit me at home, that's where they'll sit. I think I can handle the wait, though.

Tell you what, next month I should be home... we will have to slide the shoot weekend to the following weekend, but if you'll drop by a little early I'll give you your choice of what you want to shoot. Pick any of the following calibers: .223, .30 carbine, .308, .30-06, .303, 7.62x54R, 8mm Mauser.

mark, you may as well add .45 long colt to that one and .22 long rifle!!

sorry Mike, I don't have much to add in the long guns dept!

I'll bring my Mosin and Yugo, ammo too. A Battle Rifle shoot sounds like a HUGE time.

Elliott, I love that lever rifle of yours. I could knock out a few hundred rounds from that with no trouble. And just let me have some trigger time on Julies rifle.

I might get one of my sales reps to come out with us too. He lives up in Tri-Cities. I just found out last week he is a gunny, dude likes tacticool stuff.

Nice! Not sure about the tacticool thing..but hey, to each his own!:)

! Not sure about the tacticool thing..

Now you know I am like the opposite of tacticool, I am thinking we can convert him over to milsurp mania.

I think these tactical ninjas are missing the point. You can't buy proficiency. They'd be better off spending their money on range time.

Ah well, guess it is a carry-over from all those video games, where they can buy a sooper-dooper whatzit that has magical abilities.... doesn't work in real life, though.

The guy I work with a is a real good dude, I truly hope he will come out with us in July. One of these days I am going to go meet up with him at his Dads near Greenville ( GreenVegas). his Dads house is near 200 years old and they have been rebuilding some vintage log cabins on the land. Ought to be pretty cool to check that all out. They got a little range out back. He told me he likes AR's. I am guessing he has not been exposed to the whoomp of a Moisin Nagant or the thump from a Mauser.

I totally agree you can't buy marksmanship, and learning on a battle rifle is a great way to develop good habits.

I really would like instruction on using a sling.

Well, Mike, hope your friend can make it.

I can show you the use of the GI leather sling, no problem. Not sure how you'd get it to work on a Mosin, though....

My Nagant has a sling. Does a commie sling not work similarly to a GI sling?

Posted

Short answer - no. Primary purpose of the nagant sling is to carry the rifle. Primary purpose of the GI sling is to provide steady shooting positions.

Much easier to demonstrate than discuss...

I have a source for GI leather slings - about 20 bucks a pop, although it has been a while since I bought one. I can order some and have them on hand at the shoot for purchase.

that should tell you something about the effectiveness of a GI...

Mike, I agree that you're about as tacticool as a turnip. :death::D:D I think we can successfully get your pal into battle rifles.. they're a hoot to shoot anyhow, not only are they usually accurate but they have a history behind them. if this fella likes history then he'll get into them.
