Mosin Nagant Project

Well, I've had a Mosin for a couple of years that I've flirted with modernizing a bit. I talked to a gunsmith buddy of mine who offered to help me out, so i said yes.

I started out with a really nice 1891/30 manufactured in 1943 at Izhevsk, Russia. Sorry, I don't have a picture of it originally.

Here are a few picks of the project.

He cut four inches off of the barrel.

Here's the cut.

Then the recrown.

Here it is complete with the scope mounted and the angled bolt installed.

And finally... drum roll... three rounds at 100 yards with surplus military ammo.

Close up.

The left hole had two rounds through it.

This turned out way better than I expected. The crown job was superb! My buddy really did a fantastic job. I'll get more pictures up after I pick it up on Sunday. Let me know what you think!

Beautiful Dan.

How does the the shorter barrel and stock replacement effect the recoil.

While I generally am not a fan of defacing milsurps it bother me not when it is a Mosin Nagant.

I'll let you know. I haven't got to shoot it yet. I pick it up Sunday and will shoot it then. When my friend shot that group, he call me up and told me he had bad news. He said I had to get another one because he was keeping mine. :0)

Nice job.

A Timney will make it feel like a new rifle. I did a very similar thing a few years ago. If you go with a Timney, here is what I had to go through to make it fit.
Might not be as bad w/ a plastic stock.

Very nice! Been thinking about doing something very similar with one of my Mosins for a while now. What stock is that? Edited by 10-Ring
