AR-15 Owners?

Hey Guys!

Did a little search and didn't find what I was looking for on my topic.

I bought a Rock River Arms .223 AR-15 not long ago. My budget (the wife) won't allow me to purchase a second one for a spare (go figure)?

So far I haven't shot it much but there may come a time when I go out of state hog / deer hunting or unforeseen circumstances where I absolutely need a functioning rifle.

So my question is... What spare parts do you keep in your range bag / gun case to repair your AR-15 if something breaks? If I were to venture a guess I would think anything that moves or compresses would be prime to eventually fail, such as; the bolt carrier group and maybe the buffer spring?

What ya think the most frequent failures are in your experience?

A field repair kit like the one linked below and bolt would cover the majority of issues that would be field repairable.

My mama told me to never go anywhere with just one AR Most likely any failure will be bolt related. I've thought about this quite a bit, and this is something I'll wind up adding to a couple of my rifles...

I'd have a complete BCG including firing pin ready to go. I've really only seen two hard failures. One was a misaligned gas block that caused the gun to not cycle. The other was a broken firing pin retaining pin that got stuck and the guy couldn't get the BCG out while in the field.

The most common thing I have seen cause problems is the extractor spring. Normally heat is what kills it. The disconnect is probably the next item I see fail. Hammer springs can and do fail but it takes a long time. Cam pins also crack over time.

Any AR should be able to go 5K without any issues and most will go beyond 10K without anything major breaking.

BTW, I have seen bolts shear locking lugs off. They will continue to run fine although I would replace it as soon as possible.
