Removing KAC Free Float rail

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to remove one from my Noveske upper. What a pain in the bleep. Has anyone ever installed or removed a free float Knights Armament rail from an AR before? I can't seem to find any step by step install of a KAC, I've seen a few YHM which appear similar but either someone went crazy with loctite or I am doing it wrong.

The plastic piece looks like it should unscrew and then back away towards the receiver but it won't budge.

Any experience with these rails guys?

Cool. Old school short FF RAS. All you should have to do is vise it and turn. I bet there's a ton of loctite on there though. Heat with a torch if you have to. A strap wrench is probably a good bet too. I believe they had a specific wrench but don't remember 100%

If it's like most, that knurled retainer will need to be loosened and then the rail spins off the barrel nut adapter.

It is. Think of it like a Larue rail. Same mounting mechanism.

I think this thing is gonna have to be sent to adco, holy cow! put heat on it, strap wrench, felt like I got a LOT of torque on it and it still won't budge. I'm sure its got factory loctite or something on it but I heated it thoroughly.

Maybe KAC would offer you some advice or the forearm wrench for cheap if you contacted them and explained your difficulty.
