This is a school system, why are you shocked, they never make knee jerk decisions that completely asinine.

The other party at fault is the people. If the family clapped a little when their kid was walking up, and then stopped, no big deal, that has been going on since the invention of graduations. But you get the families that are screaming and yelling and whatnot, and it disturbs the other ____(insert number of the sr. class graduating) and is not fair to the other people of the graduating class because a group of *******s won't shut the **** up.

I can understand where they are coming from and why they ask this. But to put someone in jail, to hold their diploma, to make them do community service to get it back, you got to be kidding me. I hope they get sued and win. We should send K....nevermind.

I think of and see a graduation as a celebratory ceremony. Graduating high school, while not really very difficult today, represents a huge milestone to the student. That's why I have a problem requiring everyone in attendance to sit on their hands like it's a funeral. Acting out certainly doesn't warrant an arrest.

I just attended two graduations this year, my daughters here in TN and my stepsons in Florida. Both times there was clapping and yelling as someones child walked across stage for their diploma. Parents are proud of their children and though I don't think people should drag it out, I do think there is nothing wrong with showing a little excitement.

I clapped and yelled for both of our graduates, so I guess I was one of those rude people but I was among the masses. I am certainly glad I didn't get prosecuted for it. LOL

Honestly, I don't think anyone would really mind if family and friends took a brief minute to clap, "Yeah! Jimmie!", and then have a seat. The problem comes in when families and friends do extended victory celebrations as if lil' Junior just scored the winning touchdown in the SuperBowl.

So you just stop everything and don't call any more names until the noise dies down, right? After all, everyone is going to have to stay until it's all over... all 100, 200, 300 or more graduates. Nope. Lots of times, lil' Junior's family does their victory dance, disrupting the ceremony for the next one, two or three families... and then make their exit on their way to the post-graduation luncheon and party at a restaurant or family member's home.

If you just escort them out with no further repercussions, well, that's what they wanted to do anyway. Early start out of the parking lot, no traffic to contend with.. Hey, that's a win-win-win for the rude and inconsiderate.

Political Correctness!

I understood PC to mean Political Correctness. I just wondered what you meant by it in this particular case. Sorry, but I don't see it as a black/white/brown issue. I've seen white folks, black folks and brown folks on both sides of this particular fence. To be PC, that's Caucasian, African-American and Hispanic. To be blunt, the best behaved group is generally the Asians.

Again, to be blunt, I've seen Cooter, Jamal and Jose all doing the victory dance or tooting air horns or whatever. Thank goodness they didn't bring AK-47s to shoot in the air... I've also seen other white, black and brown families celebrating quietly in a non-disruptive manner.

Your personal experiences might differ. My personal experiences have differed from graduation to graduation... and those different experiences, along with others over the years, have taught me that people should be judged on their own merits, not as a singular instance of a stereotype. Grin... otherwise, folks on the outside might regard everyone on this and other similiar gun-boards as a bunch of dirty, in-bred rednecks with only a couple of teeth. And I still have all my teeth except the four wisdom teeth extracted at age 19.
