You can get close to the same thing at your local miil surp store. They were used here back in the fifties and sixties by our army. Nice to see the Chicoms catching up.

It's amazing that one tool can do everything...poorly.

Also, they didn't show the 74 tools that broke due to substandard manufacturing processes

This was what I was thinking, this idea isn't anything new. The U.S. military had them. thats what they used to dig foxholes with. Heck I've got two. I'm sure e-bay has them also

The good ol' E-tool.

The US Forest Circus put a longer handle on them and called them a combi-tool for fighting fires. They don't have the saw edge (but they should), the can opener or the nail puller. But they do have a nifty pick or spike opposite the shovel blade. Why? I don't know.

Actually, those appear to be engineered better than ours. The nut would constantly loosen and need retightening.

That might be handy enough to keep in my truck.

It needs dual compartments in the handle to hold skittles and a month's supply of elbow grease!

Well, it's to use as a, you know, pick. Pick and shovel.

Well, yeah. I guess so. But I never found a good use for it. I would rather have the saw edge. I might need the pick if I was digging foxholes, to loosen rocks and such. But for digging fireline, I just need to get TO the soil.

I have some sort of folding camp shovel that didn't cost much. Rides in a nylon holster kinda like that chinese one. Need to dig it out and re-examine. Think it has a saw edge on one side of the shovel, but if so not sharp at all. Can't recall if it would function as a half-ass hammer or nail puller. IIRC it also has a saw blade stored in the handle that could be attached instead of the shovel, but might be thinking of two different gadgets. The saw blade seemed pretty pitiful "off the shelf" as well.

Maybe taking a grinder and dremel tooth sharpener to mine might make it better, if the steel is any good at all. Put a knife edge on one side, and try to "optimize" the saw teeth on the other.

Sure was an energetic demo. But they missed a function. If you have 2 just strap them to the bottom of your boots for snow shoes. :)
